Seems a little steep for what he's done so far (~20G/50Pts the past 3 years), but I guess they're expecting big things from him?

Stepan gets 6.5M and has never put up more than 57 points. He's a consistent 50-55 point guy.
Centres get paid.

It's a fair deal, but I'm not a fan of Zibanejad.

Precedent for a Backlund extension? Five additional years at $5.35 million AAV I could live with for Backs.

I hope Treliving uses this deal to base a long term Bennett deal on.
(2X2.5mil bridge equivalent) + (5X5.35mil)= 31.75mil/7=4.54 mil per for 7 years. I think this is the best course of action. Bet on Bennett long term and keep his cap hit low.

but what if Bennett bets on himself?
If his ceiling is higher than maxing out at a 50 point player, why would he sign for that low of salary over 7 years?

Seems like a bit of an overpayment but they are paying a bit for potential. I don't know if this guy has another level. Ottawa didn't think so.

This deal is more of a comparasion for Backlund over Bennett.

Let's wait until he at least breaks 40 points and shows improvement in the defensive zone before we throw $30 million at him.

Zibanejad is big and has all the talent in the world but he's butter soft and wildly inconsistent. he drove Ottawa fans bonkers
He should give his agent a large bonus for getting this deal

Holy, what? That is an insane gamble from the team's standpoint.

In what league?
Even if you add his AHL and NHL numbers together, he still only has one season of 50 points

You're talking Zibanejad? Because his post was in reference to Stepan.

I love how some people think 4.5 mil per for 7 years is way too high and some think there is no way Bennett would sign this deal as he would likely bet on himself. To me, that means this number is pretty close. This is where the wizard comes into play. Signing Bennett to a 7-8 year deal between 4-4.75 million per is my hope.

Looking at it again, I still think ComicZone was suggesting that Zibanejad is a consistent 50-55 point guy. He was saying that Stepan gets $6.5M even though he has never put up more than 57 points, so Zibanejad deserves $5.35M because "he's a consistent 50-55 point guy.
That's how I read it anyway, and thus the "one 50 point season" comment.

Big RH centre who's still young.
If he was better offense or defense then he'd be paid 6+.
