Tkachuk's controversial elbow on Drew Doughty
Surprised that there hasn't been a thread on this yet since its getting a lot of attention around the league. As much as I like Tkachuk and hate Doughty i don't like seeing that stuff especially from a Flames player.
Heres the hit:

It was intent to injure with elbow movement directly to the head. I agree with you. Love Tkachuk, hate Doughty, but those are the kinds of hits the league is trying to remove from the game. Probably worth a suspension of a few games as a first offense.

What's "controversial"? Yes it was an elbow to the head. Should have been five minutes and a game. Maybe they suspend Matt for one after the fact. Doughty was not badly hurt. It was not nearly as treacherous as people are making it out to be.

He plays with an edge and sometimes that fine line gets crossed. Looking at the bigger picture he brings to the rink a style of play that has been missing for a number of years. Finally we can say he's our #######

My response in pgt. I think Doughty really pulled a Claude Lemuix.
"Wiyh the #### Doughty has got awy with in his career he could open up a a lumber store. You know since he is such a professional lumber jack with how he can swing his axe.
For what it ia worth mattew didn't look like he caught him with an elbow on the replays. It looked liked his shoulder/ shoulder blade area. I personally thoight Doughty embellished it."[

Hate that crap, regardless of who's doing it. I hope Tkachuk gets a suspension for it.

But no call on Pearson either???
O right vengance. That's groovy man. Besides looked at the replay it is acually the bicep thay catches Doughty. No intent to hurt Doughty was jut not expecting the reverse hit. Happens every game. Even to the Flames. Non issue.
Good no call. No calll on the play . nhl hockey not international rules . don't see an issue.

If the ref gave him 2 minutes for that elbow, everyone would be over it by now.

Didn't like it, it was a cheap-shot, and I don't like seeing that from our guys.
That said, he's still a teenager. Hopefully he'll learn to be equally aggressive without going about it in a d-bagish way.

Id rather we stay a clean team. We haven't really had a dirty player in a long time and Tkachuks the first. He's a huge part of our team and and is going to be a great player. I love his edge and his physical style of play. Chirping and big hits is ok but sticking out elbows is not.

Been watching this team get bullied by the Cali teams for years, it's refreshing to see a player at 19 years old who is willing to be the bully. Tkachuk is a dialed back version of his old man, Keith would do that in practice. Was it a bit dirty? Yes. But it shows this team is no pushover anymore. I'm not encouraging elbows to the head (even tho it wasn't an elbow imo)but Tkachuk's physical play is what makes him a beast and stuff like this will happen. Love seeing our rookie have no fear and constantly challenging and irritating other teams top players.
If there is a suspension, so be it. I've seen way worse not get any games

Na, we've needed an absolute dickhead for years now. If Tkachuk goes some way towards filling that role, I'm all for it. We've been perennially soft for as long as I can remember; even up until this year with the amount of crap Johnny has been taking, an nobody - especially our captain - has done a thing.

Theres a difference between a tough guy but clean like Ferland (Nobody has touched Gaudreau since Ferland came on his line) compared to dirty hits like a Matt Cooke or Marchand (Not saying Tkachuk is that bad right now btw).

Doughty is always one the best possession drivers in the game. Good at suppressing shots against and generating shots for. This is the game chart tonight, created by @ineffectiveMath
I wonder if there is a reason Doughty had such a terrible game? Wonder if someone got under his skin, maybe took him off his game?

I didn't like it, I thought it was dirty, and I was a little ashamed of Tkachuk for throwing that elbow in that situation where Doughty wasn't expecting it. Tkachuk has this habit of doing things "accidentally, on purpose", which makes the incidents not as blatant as others, but no less dangerous or dirty.
I don't like those kinds of plays, regardless of who I'm cheering for. However, I'm not even going to get into suspension talk because the league is hypocritical and inconsistent when it comes to suspensions.
It doesn't matter if Doughty has been guilty of dirty plays or stick work in the past. The fact remains that dirty plays need to be drummed out of the league, not given a tit for tat standard. Punish ALL dirty plays harshly, and hopefully it will remain under control.
When it comes to Matt, I just want him to play with a physical edge and cut out the head butts, slew foots, and elbows. Get in the opponents face, make life for the goalie hard, play physically with your body, but cut out the dirty stuff.
