Lots of neat little things in that preview and a lot of big things
A tie fighter pilot named Wedge
Thrawn
Ezra pushing towards the Darkside because he doesn't want to see his friends hurt.
What looks like Phase two Dark Troopers.
Sabine with the Dark Saber that was used by Pre Vizsla
Looks like the animation has really improved, Sabine and Ezra and Kanaan all with new looks.
No sign in the preview of Vader, I doubt we see him this year with Thrawn as the main villain, though there are rumors that Palpatine will make an appearance with the Death Star continuing to be built.
Really excited to see where this goes.

Near the end, there's a quick shot of Maul in a duel. At first, I thought it looked like he was fighting Qui-Gon, but after freezing it, it looks like it's Kanaan with glowing green eyes.

Looks great, I have no experience with thrawn having read none of the books so I look forward to this fresh, legendary villain.

I'm hoping that they do Thrawn better then the books. The books that he was in he was framed as a military genius who used a species art to understand them and then ultimately defeat them. The problem was that they gave him relatively few victories, and the ones they did give him were more along the lines he won, but he didn't overwhelm his enemies.
He was almost like the villain in Inspector Gadget of the Star Wars universe where his fleet was jumping away in retreat and he was muttering "Next Time Gadget"
I think for him to be the Thrawn that everyone really wants, he needs to kick the ever loving crap out of the Rebellion who will have no answers to his tactics, and push them to the walls of extinction.
If you look at Star Wars lore, even in the events leading up to the destruction of the Death Star the Rebellion was pretty much beaten their first real victory was the operation where they stole the Death Star Plans, but they were outgunned, outshipped and generally on the way out until Luke fired that torpedo.

Looks like the characters have aged a bit and with the introduction of Thrawn hopefully this means we get some large scale battles.. I said some, I do enjoy the small team type missions.

I read somewhere a while ago that there were planning to make this 5 seasons, no more and no less, I wonder if that is still the idea. If so then yes this third (middle) season will be pivotal to set the tone for what we are going to be dealing with down the stretch.

Neither season is on Netflix. I tried to set up a recording of all new and old episodes on the PVR. But it only recorded some newer ones. Hoping for a repeat at some point.
To me if this is going two more years after this one, there is going to be a slow decent to the Dark Times that Obi Wan talked about, where the Rebel Alliance was getting its arse kicked, the Jedi were completely out of the picture and the Empire was slowly closing its grip on the galaxy. There's no way that this show can end with anything near to a victory.

Not sure if this is a spoiler or not so I will just treat it as such, looks like another Clone Wars character will be joining the Rebels cast this season:
A Mandalorian warrior, Bo-Katan was a member of the splinter group Death Watch, which opposed the pacifist reign of her sister, Duchess Satine Kryze. Bo-Katan became the trusted lieutenant of the group’s leader Pre Vizsla and joined him as a member of Darth Maul’s Shadow Collective. However, when Maul killed Pre Vizsla, Bo-Katan split with the group and formed the Nite Owls, which opposed Maul’s rule of Mandalore.
