Meh, the guy took a serial rapist off the streets, I don't think you should be doing time for that. It's not like he killed the guy or anything.

http://www.courttv.com/news/2003/061...tails_ctv.html

From the above article, there are a few things that stand out:

1) When he took down Luster, "In Mexico, kidnapping, of a fugitive or not, is an arrestable offense. All six men were detained." This was in 2003.
Dogg knew he was breaking the law in Mexico, and as he tells us in
his TV show, he's got to pay the penalty.

2) "[US Law Enforcement officials] would not help the bounty hunter dodge potential kidnapping charges." This is amazing, given #3. He helps
get total scum into jail, and this is what he gets for it?

3) Luster is a dirtbag. "was convicted in absentia of 86 counts, including multiple rape charges connected to assaults in 1996, 1997 and 2000. Police say he videotaped sex with unconscious women after drugging them with the date rape drug GHB." I would use
other words, but I'm sure a banning would happen.

Even as I read this, I have sympathy for Chapman (and crew). He
doesn't deserve this, considering what he removed from the streets.
Does that mean the ends justify the means?

Mexico getting overzealous?

Mexico is just a ghetto 3rd world country with backwards laws. My sister moved down there for a year and some things there are just ridiculous.

My dad had to fly down there just to drive through the Baja with her because Bandito's actually exist.

I don't understand the justice system. He catches a serial rapist who was been terrorizing women for who knows how many years and his captor goes to jail? Yes, he's not a police officer, but there's soemthing seriously wrong with this situation.

Actually the Bandito's are active all over North America, although in Canada they were virtually wiped out with those murders down East. But I'm sure in Mexico their influence is much greater.

For some reason I'm fascinated with biker gangs.

Mexican bandits are a group of thieves and/or cops that prey on tourists who travel off the beaten path (ie. outside the resort) You couldn't pay me to drive through Mexico after the stories I've heard on surf trips gone very very bad

Actually it was a legitimate question - I had never heard of the term before other than in reference to the biker gang.

I appear to be creating all manner of confusion in this thread so I'll just quietly back out of it now.

Had the US filed an extradition request for the rapist?
Had Mexico filed an extradition request to pick up Dog?

Does the end justify the means?

The guy he took down was scum, but if he broke a Mexican law, he should be subject to the same penalty as anyone else.
If he had come up to Canada and grabbed somebody, I know I would be ****ed - our country our laws.

And the US can convict someone in absentia?

The rapist is scum, he gets whats coming to him and twice as much on top; but trying to capture this dirtbag does not make anyone else above the law.

Sounds like Dog, Leland and Tim were arrested on an offense that they cannot be extradited for. (after listening to the interview with Beth)

Here's another article. link

Quote:
Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

At that time, Mexican prosecutors maintained that Luster's capture violated their sovereignty.

The Chapmans each could face up to 8 years in prison if they are returned to Mexico and convicted on kidnapping charges.

Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term, but at the time, the Chapmans were also jailed by Mexican authorities for a brief time three years ago.

The three returned to the United States after posting bail of their own.
So "Dog the Bounty Hunter" is a bail-jumper.

Takes one to know one, I guess.

I hope not, but Beth did say that they will be going to Mexico to sort out the mess. Dog is not a chicken and will not hide, he preaches it to the people he arrests to stand up and face your problems. I can't see him hiding from this problem.

So jumping bail isn't hiding. Nice to see another know it all hoisted on their own petard.
