SHARKS ADD A TRIO TO THE TEAM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sunrise, FLA (CPHL Press) - Drury18, the GM of the San Jose Sharks, addressed the media after the 2015 CPHL Draft.

"We came out of the 2015 CPHL Draft with the 3 players we wanted going into the draft as well as an additional 3rd round pick for 2016 after moving down a few spots. In all, this was a successful draft and an exciting day for the San Jose Sharks organization".

The Sharks were poised to pick 59th, 66th and 110th, however a late draft deal saw the Sharks trade the 59th pick to the New York Rangers in return for the 71st pick and a 2016 3rd Round pick.

With the 66th pick, the Sharks picked C Adam Musil from the Red Deer Rebels. Musil, son of Frank Musil and brother of current Sharks Defence prospect David Musil, has been noted by scouts as having a fluid, speedy skating style and the ability to play a strong two way game. He isn't full of dazzle or flash, but he uses his size (6'3", 208lbs) and hockey IQ to make smart plays. "Musil was someone we targeted very early on in our draft planning. We love his style and his size. Plus, he comes from a strong hockey minded family. Adam has potential to be a steady defensive centre and in his WHL career, has shown to be solid on face-offs. We had to have him on our team" said Drury18 of the pick.

The 71st pick of the draft saw the Sharks take Parker Wotherspoon from the Tri-City Americans. Wotherspoon, a 6'0, 172lb defenceman, also comes from a hockey family bloodline with brother Tyler Wotherspoon a prospect with a bright future in his own right. Wotherspoon blocks shots, battles in all the ugly spots and isn't afraid to step up into the play and take a shot of his own. He is also praised by many scouts for his skating style. The Sharks GM spoke of Wotherspoon saying , "We aren't saying that Wotherspoon is going to replace Christian Ehrhoff, but it was something we were keeping in mind when looking for a defensive prospect. We wanted an offensively gifted defenceman and Wotherspoon fit a lot of the check boxes we had. Plus, with the comparisons he has to his older brother and how closely I've followed Tyler's career, it was a pick we felt we knew what we were getting into".

Pick 110 for the Sharks saw Russian Yegor (Egor) Rykov of SKA join the team. The 6'0, 205lb Defenceman has become a leader for the Russian National Team wearing both the "A" and "C" in International xompetitions. Rykov is described as a solid two-way defenceman with good puck skills. Currently the property of SKA, chosen 10th overall in the KHL Draft in 2014, he has a contract with the team until April 2017. "We know he's not coming over anytime soon, but he's definitely a prospect we wanted to stake a claim on. To find a player of his calibre still around at 110, it was a no-brainer to get a hold of his rights. We are willing to be patient with this prospect as the reward for him could be quite high. Plus, he's a Russian and I don't think it's any secret the love the Sharks organization has for Russian players."

The Sharks will also take part in the supplemental draft following the NHL draft later this month where they look forward to adding a few more pieces to their ECHL roster.

Even though I traded up to snag your 59th pick, I think you made a better pick at 71. Nicely done for having such late picks!

I was surprised Wotherspoon was still around. He was at one point one of the top WHL dman prospects and rated to be 2nd round by a few and of course the whole Tyler factor. I thought I blew my chance at getting him when I took Musil ahead of him and was really happy he was still around.

I liked the challenge of drafting later.

I was set to draft Wotherspoon at 72 or 73, was very disappointed when you picked him right ahead of me.

Great report, great draft considering the picks you had to deal with. Easy to have a great draft when you have 3 of the top 10 picks. Totally another story to be picking so far from the spotlight

It is great to see some of our new GMs be so involved in the draft - including those that stuck around for the whole thing, even though they only had a few picks.
