Stockton Heat 2015/2016 General Discussion
Thought I'd get a thread going for next seasons farm team discussion.
As per sureloss in the main forum, Louick Marcotte signed an AHL deal with us. More RW depth, and more mud thrown at the wall. That's good IMO.

Bit of a preliminary depth chart to build from:
EDIT: Didn't include Granlund but he can be sent down without waivers IIRC, and I didn't include Shore because he should make the NHL or be traded IMO.

Big questions:
1. Does Hunter Smith turn pro?
2. Kanzig has a contract, but does he turn pro? (I understand he can return to junior still?)
3. Are all the RFA's brought back?
4. Are any AHL vets signed? (Guys like Tsousignant and Potter)
5. What will happen with guys like Billins (RFA) and Stevenson (AHL deal/Black Ace)?
6. And of course, which of the guys above will make the NHL team, if any?

Who's Marcotte? Just saw his name come up on twitter as a AHL signing?

Solid defense, but wouldn't count on Wotherspoon being there. Kanzig can play that big man role on the blueline, and play as the 5-6 defenseman.

Found a job for PMM in Stockton:

Best part is he can funnel Stockton Heat merchandise back to us!

Will be interesting to see who they get to complete the goalie tandem with Gillies.
Ideally, they probably want someone with a few seasons pro experience to pair with Gillies who could perhaps mentor him and push him. They also need someone who can potentially be the #3 NHL goaltender behind Hiller and Ortio, if Gillies is not ready.
IMO I don't think the Flames will bring back Thiessen. Didn't do that great in Adirondack and didn't seem to trust him at all in the NHL.

Yeap. IMO they need another Joey MacDonald type guy. He pushed Ortio when in the AHL, and was also able to fill in in the NHL when needed.
Funnily enough, Joey Mac is a UFA on JUly 1st, but I doubt he comes back.
Guys like Leighton, Ellis, Bachman and Labarbera would fit the bill IMO.
Hopefully they don't go with another obscure project like Theissen though. What a disaster that was when Ortio got hurt.

Turner Elson and Austin Carroll are two guys who intrigue me this season. I feel they'll both have a "boom or bust" type of season.

Other than a couple players, the forward group looks pretty meh.

Clemmensen could be a good fit. He puts up strong AHL numbers and can play in the NHL in a pinch.

Yeah, they definitely need another goalie in the organization.
I would like to see a career AHL guy, somebody with experience to stabilize things.

Bachman would be a solid signing.

Heading to Stockton in July for a few days to visit the inlaws. Keep my eyes open for Heat stuff.

Looks like Billins won't be back. Signs 2 year SHL deal.

Flames will lose his RFA rights after this season.

Oleg Yevenko
As far as I know he hasn't signed anywhere else yet. He did play for Belarus at the World Championships. If he does come back to the Flames system, it will likely be on an AHL/ECHL contract only.
