On this:
Sportsnet had an interesting stat up before the game; the Flames are tied with Vancouver for the highest number of games facing the opposition’s number one goaltender at 55. Given that Mason started tonight the number will go to 56 with 11 games to go compared to only 44 games against number ones last year. So what does that mean? I’m guessing nothing given the Oilers are in third spot with 53
My theory would be that to a certain point I think teams want to make sure they get the 2 points against the teams they perceive they can beat. You need to take the points from the winnable games and then win some of the tough ones. Lose too many of the "gimmes" and you are done.
That explains the Oilers thing anyways.

Tough one and a lot depends on how they view Ortio.
If they feel like they want to rotate Ortio (on a 1 way next season) and Hiller next year then you let Ramo walk.
Or you rotate Ramo and Ortio and trade Hiller.
Ramo will want a chance to play for sure - not sure if an NHL team will hand him anything more than a similar 1b status that he had here.

I thought Giroux's move in the face off dot was also rather inappropriate (? seems like the wrong word to use but I can't think of the right one). I get that he's the veteran, but come on - Monahan isn't a rookie and that's not his job. A bit arrogant on Giroux's part, in my opinion.

Monahan could have done more to stand up for himself there though as well.

Trading Hiller would be my choice. Probably not going to happen though.

Sign Ramo and let the three battle it out in camp. If Ortio loses, he could still pass through waivers but it will depend on other teams and Trelivings read on the situation. If the loser is one of the vets, try and make a trade.

Sing him. It just doesn't make any sense to let Ramo walk.
Ortio is turning 24-years-old next month, and is still really young for a NHL goalie. I have no problem letting him season and grow for another year in the AHL. My preference would be to go with Ramo/Hiller next season, pursue a trade for Hiller at the deadline and with the intent to move Ortio up. A Ramo/Ortio tandem in the NHL in 2016 sounds great to me.

Ortio is waiver eligible next year I believe. So he'll be on the team with either Hiller or Ramo.

no way they risk Ortio through waivers, the guy has been too good in the AHL each of the last seasons to not get picked up.

I think you have to keep going with the rebuild and give Ortio the backup spot. There's not really a logical scenario where Ramo comes back as I don't see Hiller getting moved as he's a Treliving/Burke guy and it would be foolish to trade Ortio. Besides I'm willing to bet Ramo is going to want to test the market.

I like all 3 goalies, and I like Gillies as a prospect. If our supposed interest in that NCAA goalie prospect (O'Connor?) is true, I wonder which of our goalies would garner the best return on the trade market? Would it be completely crazy to consider signing Ramo and dangling Ortio on the trade market to see if you could get an extortionate return for him? <<- don't shoot me for suggesting it; just curious what his value would be.
Perhaps Hiller would command the better return as he's the biggest name of the 3...

At the moment Hiller is the easiest higher return because of his contract status and his experience. If Ramo was signed it would depend on his contract, but he still doesn't have Hiller's rep. An Ortio trade would simply be for another similar prospect, but I don't see that happening since it's not a good idea to give up a top goalie propsect just because you have others. A couple years ago the Flames had a bunch of goalie prospects and none turned out.
