I hope you aren't implying that this is being done for the benefit of my own team.
Regardless we are debating if we should grandfather this or not. I understand the concerns. Not promising a change here - but we will discuss it.
But there needs to be a willingness to adapt and change. That was the point. Everyone seemed cool with it until it started to impact their own team.

This is true.
I actually think a nice compromise might be to implement the point improvement rewards immediately. That would reward teams who have improved while spreading the cap awards across more of the league.
To re-iterate I view the massive cap awards as being one of the major drivers of the asset imbalance. It needs to be addressed.

Did I mention your name anywhere? Lots of team put themselves in a position to be successful during UFA time, I did it last year.
Everyone wanted change, and I reiterate I think the changes are GOOD for the game, but I would be shocked if anyone expected the changes to come before the end of the season.

last thing we want to do is have rules that don't aid the top team in the league, we should tax the middle class to help the poor
There's no difference in this or me sending Tavares down... both should take the hit

Changing to 100 game minimum v. a 2 year ECHL rule achieves the same thing. They would both be in the CPHL next year.
|
1 or 2 players? Come on Grant, you know those were just examples. If you want me to go through the entire league, I can.
the 2 year ECHL rule does achieve this, to a point, it is only applied to 1st round picks in the CPHL. What about the other rounds?

it was just a joke Doug. Not like I didn't vote for JT as player of year when he clearly was just to screw you (that's also a joke - or at least an attempt at one).
anyway...clearly this is getting to serious. i'll check back for updates but ive said all I have to say.
keep up the good, yet constantly unrewarding work, commissioners.

Ok you tell me. By changing the rule to 100 games instead of the 2 year rule being implemented - how would things change? What players would be in the CPHL sooner?
How many players each year play anywhere close to a full season the year after being drafted? 4 or 5?
The other rounds we chose to keep the same because it just doesn't have any impact of magnitude given development time of those players.

Under the previous UFA rules, if you were smart you could get a UFA for a good price by talking to a cap strapped team, you just had to be open and actually look for it. Now, I'm just not going to trade for any UFA that I can't re-sign myself. And if I need cap to sign a UFA, I'm just going to move a RFA of significant value and get my return that way, this won't result in good UFAs going to market, it just stifles the value of them.

Question about 2 a, if GM signs a drafted NHL/ undrafted CPHL player does that player sign in the AHL or ECHL?

The top end UFAs are probably always going to be re-signed. But I see this playing out a couple different ways
- As you say, you won't trade for any UFA that you can re-sign. This should mean more of them hit the market.
- If you decide to trade a RFA to free up that space, that puts a good RFA on the market which is good.
When I looked at this one of the trends I saw that was creating the asset difference was that lower teams pretty much were in a cycle of paying for aging vets, signing to grids, and then doing the same over and over.
This I think breaks that cycle. Though it remains to be seen.

Good question. Since it is a draft now - I would plunk them in the ECHL.

So we are talking Marian Hossa, Sheldon Souray and Thomas Greis I think Hossa would have been signed regardless by a team if you will able to trade him or not so we are only talking Souray and Greis, be interesting to see what RFA you move so you can give these two GRID 1 way deals

There's rules I don't like and think are a joke but I'll rather give them a shot and see what happens. Not for I told you so but rather maybe things can work. I'll rather support the rules I don't agree with and try and make this work the just being negative
At the end of the day you have to question if we are sincere in the reason we are making the changes and if you ask me so far it's the top team upset about how it affects them then maybe the league is in on something right
But then these top teams are the active ones as well and maybe just being active as usual and it has nothing to do with just the top teams being upset. but regardless I'll rather support then dog it.
I had my chance to voice my concerns in the other thread, so were listen to and some some not. But now's the time to tow the company line and support what they are trying to do. We had our time, this is the time to say yes boss and get it done

I have 3 first rounders this year in the draft. Two probably very high. Reducing their contracts from 3 to 2 impacts me.
Should I argue to have that grandfathered too? I acquired those picks based on an understanding that they would be assets locked in for 3 years in the ECHL which is awesome.
So maybe we just don't do anything.
|
I forgot to address this.
I don't think there's anything preventing you from setting different start dates for each of the rule changes. It's not the US House of Reps where one tiny amendment can kill a whole bill.
When we were having our discussions in the other thread, I don't think anyone expected that any changes would happen before the current season was done.
