The Kensington Thread
I thought it would be interesting to have threads about different areas in Calgary.
Post events, real estate news, shopping, restaurants, pubs etc . . .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kensington,_Calgary
Focused around the intersection of Kensington Road and 10th St. NW.
It resides primarily in the Hillhurst and Sunnyside neighbourhood, and successful marketing has made it such that the neighbourhood itself is erroneously referred to as Kensington.

You will notice FATS recently became 10th Street Landing (Gastropub).
FATS was an acronym for Fifth Avenue Tenth Street.

Neat thread idea. I don't go there much anymore, but used to love wing night at Sam's Deli. Saw some really good music there on occasion, too.
Spent a lot of time at KP over the years as well.
My all-time favourite bar in Kensington was the Yardhouse. My friends and I spent a lot of time there from '04 - '09 (kinda guessing on the dates). Loved it because they played good music and we went there enough that they'd even hook my phone up to their stereo and just play our music hah. Hopefully it's still fun there... I just kind of aged out of it, I think.

As a resident of the area I find Kensington kinda weak, but there are still some gems. Kensington Pub is great and cozy. El Charrito has a location there now so I can get weekend posole and tortas. There are some nice restaurants too. Midtown is pretty good beer wise but just ok food wise. It makes me miss Broken Plate for the lamb shanks. The hours of the stores are lame and the area would be a lot better if there wasn't so much 9-5 businesses.
Also, I have no idea how Julio's Barrio has lasted that long there ... but there it is. Faux-mexicana'ing it up.

I haven't lived in Calgary in over 5 years, but I truly miss both Kensington and 4th St. S.W. (and parts of 17th ave.). I worked in Kensington for 6 years, and the culture and people can't be beat. I just miss it is all…
That's all I have to add to this thread.
Oh yeah…the Italian deli makes the best sandwiches. Can't remember the name. Pepito or something? Somebody help me out.

Naked Leaf tea is a great shop. My friends curse me all the time for getting them hooked on the Creamy Earl Grey from there.

About time. I thought the name FATS was fairly uninspiring. What was it before that? The Red Onion or something?

I liked the FATS name, oh well just another change in an area that is undergoing lots.
If there is one place you can't go wrong for food it would be Vero Bistro Moderne (on 10th street). I've yet to have anything there that wasn't just freaking delicious.
I also love K-Pub, bonus points for it being kid friendly until 5pm. It's great to go on the weekend with the kids, have a beer or two while they get some fries.

Brasserie Kensington is fantastic. If you haven't been, give it a shot.
Great atmosphere, good service and the food is excellent.

IIRC Sam's was renamed to Sidestreet Pub & Grill.
That being said, it seems like we have a bunch of members in the area. I would be up for a flames game at 10th Street Landing.
