Doors Open Calgary #DOYYC 2014
I just wanted to let y'alls know about a neat thing happening around our city this coming weekend, September 27-28. I did a search and didn't see it mentioned yet. It's called Doors Open Calgary or DOYYC. 33 sites around Calgary open up their behind the scenes areas for the public to go through and see. Ex. Calgary Transit has a ctrain wash, and they let the public go onto the ctrains as they go through the wash. Canada's Sports Hall of Fame opens up its collections areas and tours the public through (shameless self promotion). SAIT opens up its aerospace training hangar for the public. Many, if not all of these sites are free for this weekend. So check it out.

Cochrane also has their own version: https://www.cochrane.ca/649/Doors-Open-Cochrane
Some sites require registration so make sure you check ahead of time. Hope you all get to go out and see some sites. We live in an amazing city and I know I personally don't get to see enough of it.

We've done Doors Open YYC events for the last two years (still haven't been able to register for the Calgary Tower event though.) There certainly is a lot of cool stuff to check out. The SAIT Aerospace tour should be interesting. I wish the Saddledome and the Flames Foundation would join the event and provide tours of the facility.
We checked out the Oliver Bowen (LRT facility) the first year and it was quite interesting.

I believe the Flames are doing something. Or maybe I'm just thinking the Stampede this year. I know they've been part of it in the past.

The Stampede is providing tours of the infield, grandstand and barns.
You are correct that the Saddledome opened it's doors the first year (2012.) Somehow I managed to miss that event and I would have really liked to have been there. Hopefully they participate again in the future.

Forget the YYC part and just call it Doors Open Calgary.

We did CBC a few years ago. It was pretty entertaining.
Any recommendations for which ones to do?

SAIT Aviation should be good. Oliver Bowen is a good tour that we did the first year. Fire Training is pretty decent especially if you have kids that are into fire fighting stuff. I expect that the Children's Hospital should be good as well as the Ice House.

Ah, missed that - seeing so many hashmarks online has me think that #YYC means Calgary.
