He reminds me so much of Regehr in lots of different ways. Regehr had that horrific double-leg fracture which sidelined him for a year, and look how he turned out!
Small point but Regehr never missed time because of his accident. His recovery was amazing.

The Royals got slaughtered in game one vs Portland ... final score 8-2 in favor of the Hawks. Kanzig was scoreless and a -1 while racking up 21 penalty minutes. He was involved in something major in the 3rd period:

Ryan Culkin had the primary assist on the OT game winner as Drummondville takes game one on the road vs Val d'Or, 4-3.
Gatineau lost game one vs Halifax 4-1. No point for Emile Poirier.

speaking of Iverson, I'd be happy if the Flames spent a 2nd/3rd rounder on him in the upcoming draft. Checks a lot of boxes ... center, right handed, big (6'0 and 216) and "plays with some snarl", as Burke would say.
In addition to the Kanzig and the Royals, all of the Flames prospects still playing in the CHL playoffs are on the underdog teams in their current series. Except for Culkin's Drummondville, they all are down 1-0 in their second round series.
Drummondville is up 1-0 on Val-d'Or after a 4-3 OT win on Friday. Culkin had the primary assist on the OT-GWG.
Poirier was held off the scoresheet in Gatineau's 4-1 loss in Halifax on Friday.
Brandon was shutout 5-0 in the opening game of their series in Edmonton. Needless to say, Eric Roy did not get any points for the Wheat Kings.
The Portland-Victoria series is being televised by Shaw. Game 2 goes Saturday night at 8:00pm MT.

Sure but will he show up for practice?

Have we had a prospect in the system with as short a fuse as Kanzig since Matt Pelech?
Kanzig has actually done a much better job keeping his temper this year. As he is maturing he will be able to harness the anger and it will make him an asset.
I really see him as being similar to Breen except he doesn't have to be taught to be mean like Breen did, which will work in his favor IMO.

Unless his foot speed improves, he would have to basically be flawless all the time with his positioning on the ice most of the time, which would make him Hal Gill 2.0.
You just can't have slow defensemen. It'll be a huge uphill climb for him to become an everyday NHLer if he doesn't become even average speed wise.
If he was average speed wise, he'd be awesome as a physical defender and likely would've been a late first round pick like a lesser version of Samuel Morin.
