He rarely whines and didn't once pout about spending a year and a half in the coaches dog house. He paid his dues on the fourth line, worked his ass off, and when injuries gave him an opportunity to work his way up the line up he took it. Your precious Sven Baertschi could learn something from Matt Stajan about not pouting when faced with some adversity.
And to say he is a diver and a cry baby is also false. There might be nobody in the NHL who gets rocked as many times as Matt Stajan, but he always bounces back up and keeps going.
Those close to the team already told you that you were wrong about Stajan not being a leader or a whiner on twitter, maybe just maybe those closer to the team have a better idea of what is going on in the locker room better than you do.

None of our young players should be heeding the advice of Matt Stajan.

This is over the top, but I do agree that Stajan dives and whines to the refs too much.

re-sign Russell and draft Ekblad.
Ekblad - Giordano
Wideman - Brodie
Smid - Russell

I don't respond to sad attempts at trolling.
I hate everything Matt Stajan represents in relation to this team and if Feaster had made that signing, this forum would have erupted.

Anything up to 7/7 is fine by me. He has way more value than Dion.
He'll probably get 3 @ 2.75.

People forget, unless Calgary wins the lottery, Ekblad has to get through Buffalo (probably easy, I imagine they want a forward) and Edmonton (guaranteed to pick him). I want to see him on the Flames as much as the next guy, but it's a little early to start pencilling him into the lineup.

I'm not pencilling him in, I'm just posting my dream scenario. I agree it will be tough to get him with the Oil Tank at full throttle already, but one can always hope, right?

looking at TSN they list or dmen as follows
Gio is listed at 6 feet.
Brodie is 6 foot 1
Smid 6 foot 3
O'brien is 6 foot 3
Wideman is 6 feet
Butler is 6 foot 1
Russel is 5 foot 10
To be big does you Dmen have to be 6 foot 3 or else they are small? just curious
|
Height isn't the only indication of size. On that list, Smid is the only guy who plays a physical game and uses his size effectively, SOB has some good games but more often than not he's below average. The Flames really lack a solid defensive defenseman on the team who can use his size to intimidate the other team

Just so I'm clear, your position is Stajan = bad, Russell = bad?

I like Russell. 3 years/7.5. Book it.

Unless you want perpetual mediocrity, I suppose.

Serious question: Do you like anything about this team? You are now officially worse than moon.

Actually before Feaster was fired many were discussing the potential to bring back one of the veterans (Stajan, Stempniak, or Cammy) and alot of people were alright with that idea because we don't want to go full Oilers.
I actually think there is some strategy here by Burke. He wants to have veterans who have been Calgary Flames longer than the rookies and young players. (Stajan, Gio, Glencross)
If you look at the Oilers they shipped out a lot of their veterans, handed the team over to the young players, and then realized they needed some veteran leadership and brought in the vets after they had already handed the team over to the "1st Overalls".
At that point it was too late. It had already become the young guys team as they were the longer tenured players on the Oilers and had the power and backing of the coaching staff.
By keeping longer tenured Flames players around that is the leadership group of the team. The young players will come in and learn and respect those veterans who have been long time Flames. Actually makes sense.
I actually agree with Ashasx (although to a much less adament extent) about Russell. He is a guy that should get 2, maybe 3 years at a cap hit less then 3 million to prove himself.
He could be a young player that took the opportunity and ran with it when given the chance or this could be another Anton Babchuk situation, the verdict is still out.
Think they do have to re-sign him though since he has been just that important to the team generating offense this year. He has been on the ice for over 50% of our 5v5 goals, which is pretty remarkable. He has been sheltered and given the offensive minutes, but he has taken advantage of those minutes so can't really hold it against him.
