Default Advice on 2006 Silverado Head Unit (XM, GPS, rear cam hookup)

Hi guys,

I am running in circles with crutchfield, visions, bb, etc.

I want to get my Grandpa a new head unit for xmas for his 2006 Silverado 3500.

He has an XM account, but I would like to find a unit that is simple, reliable, and has the inputs to add a back-up cam onto his truck or onto the back of his 5th wheel trailer.

Do you know some of the requirements, brands, or places that I should be looking at? For instance, with backup cams, which sort of jacks/inputs do I need to make sure the unit will have?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Not sure of your budget but what about the following solution...

Backup cam in rearview mirror:

Thanks J Diddy,

Good things to check. Think I need to add a backup cam to the list.

Budget seems to be quite large, as it is a family present.

I'd suggest looking outside of the electronic stores and go into the truck accessory shops (ie. Raven, Cap-it and so on). I've used Raven for some other stuff and they did a really good job.

Last silverado I was in appeared to have a double din deck.

Spend $500 - $600 and you wouldn't need a seperate mirror/deck/sat attachement that may add up to more than the cost. Plus the head units with the back up feature have the grid lines so you can see where you car can back up safely, which I don't think the mirrors have. Also then you don't have to rip out your mirror.

I think he knows that he needs a double din unit. He was asking for help with specifics. Removing the mirror is 1 screw.

You'll need the following items to hook up any deck in those trucks. I put a new Pioneer double din dvd head unit in mine this year.

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just confirm that it has the bose sound system, with the majority of the 06-07 trucks do.
