Here's the story....

I got a call from an elderly man in Clevland Ohio. He asked me if someone by the last name of my girlfriend lives at this number. I said yes. He asked if he name was Janet and I said no it is Jenn. He is looking for a woman named Janet and when would be a good time to call back and speak with her. I was kinda suspect and asked what this was about. I was kind of short with him as we get all kinds of calls from people soliciting crap.

He tells me he is looking for Janet because she is an old friend of someone who is now in a home. This person is very dear to him and needs to get in touch with Janet for that person. Their last contact was in '93 and he figures that Janet would be about 70 today. I said I don't know of any Janet in the family. He said thanks in a rather dejected tone and hung up before I could offer anything further.

I feel like **** for being short with him and REALLY want to help him. My girlfriend called her grand parents but they don't know of a Janet in the family.

The only other info I have is that she lived in Calgary at one point with an address in Edgemount.

Can I find Janet? Anyone have any ideas as to where to start other than Google? Maybe somone that works at a Registry with some spare time on their hands? I dunno. I really want to help this old guy out and am frustrated with my lack of progress.

How common a last name is it? The sad fact is given the age Janet make no longer be around.

Not too common. I am uneasy posting the last name for obvious reasons. I have looked at some obit databases with no results for Calgary. You could narrow down her death from '93 to now so these records would likely be available. I am hoping for more positive findings than an obit.

Then call him up and say you asked the old folks and can't find anyone named Janet in the family. At least he can cross your number off his list. Or maybe he can tell you a little more so you can cut down your Magnum PI time.

Kind of a sketchy situation though. If you are willing to dig this person up you might want to make sure she wants to hear from the guy before you go passing her particulars out if you do find her.

You've probably tried this, but have you tried www.whitepages.ca?

You can do a people search and search both Canada and US.

you can also use www.411.ca I used to use that to track guys down that owed me money when I still had a business, boy were a few guys mad when I would send people over to get merchandise back in another city. No it wasn't anything illegal before anyone asks.
