The Official Rob Anders is an UNEMPLOYED twat thread
I'm proposing this thread to keep all the Anders-related garbage in one location. Sick of seeing it spread into every thread relating to something idiotic the man has said, because he's said quite a lot of idiotic things.

I'd like to see this thread turn into a national shame thread for that riding.
Seriously, national shame.

Can we merge this with the "water is wet" thread?

Yeah, I think if you've voted for Rob Anders you don't ever get to criticize someone else's political views again.

Just wondering...do you think everyone in Quebec that voted NDP really liked the candidate or did they really like Jack Layton?

I don't think it was either of those things. I think they largely were rejecting the Conservatives but didn't want to vote for the PQ or Liberals. I'm not sure what the relevance is to Anders.

The relevance is very simple to see. Many people vote for a party or a leader, not a specific candidate. I imagine in the next election many people in Canada will vote for Trudeau, not really showing too much interest in the candidate in thier riding.
Seeing that you dismissed Layton's appeal on the electorate, perhaps you will also dismiss Trudeau's charisma?

I didn't dismiss Layton's appeal on the electorate, I dismissed it as a factor in Quebec. I'm sure people do vote for the party instead of the candidate, but that was kind of my point. It reflects poorly on the voter.

Let's see - there's:
-heckling Nelson Mandela in Parliament and calling him a terrorist
-falling asleep in Parliament
-saying Thomas Mulcair hastened Jack Layton's death
-not showing up for committee on veterans' affairs
-calling veterans names when he was criticized for his no-shows
What else?

Also, I live in Calgary West, and, even though I've never voted for the guy, I feel I should be shamed.

His one redeeming quality is how disproportionatly small his head is to his body. He's a like roided out Matthew Broderick
Trick is to look at his body closely, and then re-look at his head. If you just glance at it, it might seem normal

That is true, but there ought to be limits. Rob Anders is an embarrassment to the Conservatives and an embarrassment to Calgary.

That's easy to do seeing as how he doesn't have any.

seriously folks... why are are we wasting oxygen discussing Mr anders?
Has he actually done anything for anyone other than Rob Anders in the past decade?
At some future date, Mr aanders will pass due to natural causes. Will anyone on the interweb have a discussion thread itemizing all the great things Mr Anders has done for the betterment of the community?
why are we wasting our breath on him now?

I do not know him personally so perhaps I will have to back away, but I thought charisma was one thing he certainly does have going for him.

Well I think the point is to get to the discussion to the point where people will finally turf him. Waiting for him to leave or die isn't really good politics if one wants change.
And as others mentioned before, people voting for a party over, or despite, a candidate is understandable in most cases, but this isn't most cases. The guy hold values questionable to the extreme, is shown to be a lazy politician, and embarrasses his party, his country, and a lot of his electorate.
The strange thing is, even if the people in the riding are conservative boosters, they should also want to get rid of him, as he damages the brand, and perpetuates a lot of the ugly stereotypes other voters have of the conservative party.
So I guess it's important to educate others about the man if the people in that riding (or people in the conservative party in general) want change. I'm not sure enough people really want that change though. I think there are a lot of people there that are partisan to the extreme and would vote for (yes Hitler reference) as long as he wore Conservative blue.
That's bad politics for everyone, even the conservative party. It's important people know that.
