Flames qualify 9 RFAs - do not qualify Aliu, Cameron, Lamb, and Patterson
Sean Kelso @kelsohockey 13s @NHLFlames qualify nine players: Backlund, Bancks, Bouma, Breen, Brodie, Butler, Byron, Cundari and Nemisz.
Sean Kelso @kelsohockey 19s @NHLFlames do not provide qualifying offers to Aliu, Cameron, Lamb, Patterson

No real surprises. Niemez and Byron were borderline but I understand giving them a QO - Niemez was a former 1st and Byron was hurt a lot last year.
Was pulling for Aliu to succeed but it just wasn't there.

Surprised Aliu was not on the list. I guess he was just too inconsistent on the Heat. Wonder if the Heat end up offering him an AHL contract. I bet he doesn't get offered an NHL contract anywhere.
Surprised Byron was qualified. I don't mind his game, but I don't think he will ever be any more than an injury call-up.
Very happy they qualified Bancks!! He is the heart and soul of the Heat!

I am glad they kept him. If Flames ever sort out the muscle between his ears he will be a good NHLer.

I know Aliu made some fans during his 2 game callup during the 2012 season, but he was just completely ineffective for the role he needed to play. No surprises on Cameron, he was very disappointing during his pro stint.

Happy that Nemisz got qualified. The kid looked good when on a line with Sven for their cup of tea in the 2011/2012 season.
Injuries caused him to never really get going in the 2012/2013 season.

Don't think it was a shock but it was probably 50/50.
He is 22, that's pretty darn early to cut loose a player.
