Draftsite always seemed a bit weird to me. They favour size a whole lot.
For the longest of time, Tyler Hill, a huge forward who played prep school, was in the top 30. Even now, he's about 1 round above more projections.

Weird that both of the NHL scout pages that were updated on April 4th have the Caps at 2 and the Flames 6th. Makes it hard to take their picks that serious with such a glaring error in draft positions.
That being said, thanks for putting this together PMM

I like the My NHL Draft mock. Mackinnon, Gaulthier & Fucale would be an epic draft for us. I wouldn't be opposed to picking a G like Fucale with a later pick as long as we get 2 stud skaters with the earlier ones.
From what I read about Robert Hagg I think we should stay far away. Shies away from the physical play.
Monahan would be a strong Canadian future captain, star center. Can't complain about him.
Surprised that none of the mocks have us picking Lindholm.

Interesting that you have them drafting 3rd and still getting MacKinnon. Do you think Drouin goes before MacKinnon and why?

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of those ones either, but there really aren't enough recent mock drafts to compile a good quality list.
BTW, if anyone discovers any up to date mock drafts, post them and I'll put it on the OP.

Oh, I think you've mistaken "My NHL Draft" for actually mine. It's just a site that calls themselves "My NHL Draft" haha. I can see how that'd be confusing though haha.

Even though I compiled the THW mock draft mentioned above (thanks PMM!), an interesting sideline story developed that I didn't intend.
Both Morrissey and Klimchuk are hometown kids, not to mention outstanding prospects. I'd absolutely love to get Drouin with those two for the Flames 2013 1st rnd draft haul.

Hypothetically speaking, if Gauthier and Morrissey are both on the board when the Flames have their second pick, who do you take? The 6'5" centre or the skilled defenseman?

Without regard of their actual skill sets, the 6'5" centre. Would be a pretty rare commodity to get that package of skill and size. Its especially nice since our prospect pool lacks size.
Have no clue who is the actual better prospect.

I'd take Gauthier. I actually wouldn't be opposed to the Flames taking the shotgun approach and picking 3 centres in the first round.
4. Barkov
19. Gauthier
30. Petan/Klimchuk

I am not completely sure but I do believe Draftsite's mock drafts are based on mock drafts that their members do, so it's more like their consensus I suppose.

Barring a growth spurt from Petan, chances are he would be converted to wing. The kid is pretty small (5'9" I think). Mad skills though, but that is why he ranked late in the 1st round.
My mind keeps saying "pass" on him, but then I think "What if he does sprout up a couple more inches? He could very well end up being one of the biggest steals." Flames can afford to gamble, but on the flipside, Flames are seemingly doing an excellent job of making (nearly) every pick count in the last 3 consecutive drafts. I am torn on this kid. Just too many under 6' players as top 6 prospects.
I have only watched him a couple of times though. Don't really have a good read on him, but he has some serious skill.

I'd absolutely take the risk and select Petan with the Pittsburgh pick, especially in Hatter's scenario with two big centermen in Barkov and Gauthier being our first two picks. There's zero chance he'll play C in pro hockey in my mind, so you convert him to the wing and add another really skilled player to the mix. Unless he has a late growth spurt of course ... win-win in either case.

Flames have to take best player available and not the best center available.

I have to agree. If we win the lottery, you take Jones. If we are picking thrid and both Jones and Mackinnon are gone, you take Drouin.

I read somewhere that scouts are hesitant on Gauthier because his game totally changed after he got hurt. He's playing tentatively.

This website's mock draft has us picking Gauthier 19th
http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/
He looks very interesting. 6'5, 210 lbs. Looks like he could be a sleeper.

Gauthier. I would honestly take him anytime after the 10th pick.
Big, two-way, can hit (though he's changed a bit after being injured - whether or not that continues is up for questioning). His play is pretty reminiscent of Couturier in terms of style.
