Ya, I really thought that Canada could hang with them and at least keep it interesting! I knew that their forwards would be brutal to ours. When I played all of the islanders were enormous and ran so hard!
We should beat Russia. We're just a way better team than they are.....

I love the physicallity they bring to the game. I believe Samoa could be aworld beater if they could keep all their players, and get more exposure to high level games.

Definitely! It just sucks to be on the receiving end of that. I hope no one takes this as racist somehow, but a lot of those boys make sure that they hit the dinner table! When poor little buck seventy Slava had to stand-in and tackle them it wasn't the most fun I've ever had! (They're all the same size around the ankles though, thankfully).
As for that guy getting kicked by his tumbling teammate I had a similar situation, although not in the face. I was going to make a tackle at the same time as a teammate and he got spun around. His foot hit me in the thigh and the centrifugal force was incredible. I could barely walk. I can definitely see how that punctured his cheek that easily.

I don't take it as racist. I have played a lot of "islanders". I always remember what my buddy told me about them. He plays in San Fransico. Hit them at the neck. If you unload on them early, hard and high, they start to lose interest....
This was my ear this summer.....
Spoiler!
Stupid donkeys

Not a competitive game in this series it appears. Owned by Samoa and then they take it to the Russkies. The Maori game you have to figure won't go well.

Well that Samoa game was because they played terrible. I think they're three apart in the world rankings or something? Canada should've been able to hang with them.
Canada with a pretty competitive effort against the Maori All Blacks. Were only six points down with less than 10 to play. Gave up a late try but in a game where if they had lost by 40 nobody would have been surprised it was a decent effort.

Yeah rang home to get my wife to record it she forgot.
Maori are a lot stronger than some people know or think. They took Ireland last year.
It is a good showing from the boys but the Cudmore qoute about not just producing efforts, but producing wins was good to see

Not sure what he was expressing in those comments. That he thinks they can actually win games now? How? They have no depth. They are outweighed and outskilled in many an encounter. Their development system is filled with huge gaps. They have nothing for players over 20. They need a league like the AHL filled with 20-24ish yr olds. The pathway is incomplete. The base is too small. The coaching at the lower levels is inconsistent. They produce what?
They have a handful of players at the pro level. That's it.
I'd say they are very very much still at the good effort stage.
This thread hasn't got a post in awhile. Figured I'd give it a bump. One of my son's is touring England, Wales and Scotland at the moment with the Celtic Barbarians. They got snowed on in London today during their practice. They see Leicester Tigers against Saracens tomorrow and then start playing games the following day. Should be an exiting tour.
One of the reasons I prefer League, at least to watch on TV, is that you get sequences like that much more frequently than in Union. That said, I also really like watching Union games that turn into a war of attrition between two great packs.

To me league is repetitive. It lacks the "battle for the ball" that rucks/mauls/scrums allow. Union is a more subtle sport. The days of kick, kick, kick are long gone from union (excluding South Africa).
The argument can be made that league is on life support.

What? Where? It's only ever been popular in Australia and New Zealand (mostly Australia) and it's popularity isn't decreasing at all.
And while you're right on the "battle for the ball" element, you rarely see rucks/scrums/mauls that result in the ball being turned over through anything but a penalty, at least at the top levels. There's a reason that clip is out of the ordinary, those sequences don't happen very often.
