a person at work talked about his grandson for several years, and how well he was doing, and then his recent jump to the ottawa 67s, where he went from an extra forward to 2nd line time as rookie.
Low and behold it is manohan.
Clearly the kid's got talent, and great size. Knowing his extended family from work, have little doubt he's likely a good, level headed individual also.

True, but essentially they get 2 more shots at the #1. If the Philly, LA, or their own is pulled out first then Columbus is getting the first overall. While they don't technically have extra balls they have a greater chance of securing the #1 overall.

yes, but saying they get extra balls is misleading since the balls represent the order in every round

if there is any truth to this draft being at the same level as the '03 draft, then i wouldn't mind trading just about any of our NHL roster to get more first rounders. looking back at that draft, it's crazy how many franchises are built around a player from that first round.

Kind of amazing when you think about it.
There is a possibility that Columbus ends up with the 1st,2nd, and 3rd overall picks in the draft if the 2005 lottery system is used to determine draft order.

Shocking that Moon is whining and crapping on something. Why don't you go scout for a living since you're clearly an expert on prospects, way better than these guys who actually watch these players.

Oh what a shock Flames Draft Watcher chimes in with his whinning about another post.
You don't need to be an expert on scouting to notice trends. Woodlief overrates American players and Button always comes out with an "odd" draft list.

How is it overrating if other people have Jones at #1 and most others have him at #2?

If he is the 2nd best player in the draft and you have him 1st then it is overrating him. Not a horrible thing but nobody said it was.

Nothing I've seen shows Mckinnon as the consensus number 1, him and Jones have been pretty interchangeable from the start. Much ado about nothing.

Nathan Mackinnon should be first overall, whoever gets that kid is gonna be a very happy team. He is probably the best prospect I have seen play in the last 5-6 years, since Stamkos.

To be honest, I think other agencies are playing it like a 'Tavares/Hedman' or 'Yakupov/Murray' type but in our eyes, it's been clearly MacKinnon first.
I've heard from NHL guys (and a few of our scouts) that Pulock has had a more impressive start to the season and has shown more. That said, Jones is getting used to a new league.

There's no clever rhyming scheme for losing to get a shot at Seth Jones (as compared to "Not Winnin' for MacKinnon"), therefore MacKinnon is the de facto front-runner.

The only thing I can think of is 'Bare Bones for Jones'.... play at your absolute minimum to secure your chances at landing him.
It's a Sunday night... so if that sucks, I'm really sorry.

I'm not sure if someone is ranked at #2 on one list, and someone else has them listed at #1 on another list that he is "overrated".
If you haven't noticed, rankings are subjective and not everyone has the same things they look for or notice from one player to another.
In fact, the year Crosby was drafted there were scouts out there who liked Bobby Ryan better than Crosby. They are both forwards who can score and make plays...but different in the fact that Ryan has always played physical (Crosby was small and didn't really start to be physical until just before his concussion problems).
It also would depend on what your team in looking for. For instance, if Edmonton was picking, and there was no clear cut #1 like Nail last season, between MacKinnon and Jones, Edmonton would likely lean more towards Jones as they already have a plethora of young talented forwards and could use more studs on their blueline. Columbus could use whatever the hell they can get.
Why do you think Bob McKenzie's lists is different from Buttons in most cases? Bob's is a melting pot of what the scouts/GM's he talks to tells him. I believe Craig's is by rolling up his sleeves and doing his homework like a scout. Sometimes going off the board, or taking a "flyer" on someone know one talks about (Nashville's Pekka Rinne for instance) and then its all up to the player to prove that the scouts and GM made the right decision.

While it doesn't rhyme, I rather like "I'm Jonesing for Seth."

On that note, MacKinnon remains our top prospect for 2013:
Quote:
Rank / Pos. / Name / Team / League / Ht / Wt /
1). C/RW Nathan MacKinnon, Halifax, QMJHL, 6-0, 180
2). D Seth Jones, Portland, WHL, 6-4, 205
3). C Aleksander Barkov, Tappara, SM-liiga, 6-2, 205
4). C Sean Monahan, Ottawa, OHL, 6-2, 195
5). C Elias Lindholm, Brynas, Elitserien, 6-0, 185
