NHL 13 Flames CAPs
hey guys,
one of the first thing I always do in the new NHL game is create some of the Flames prospects that are not in the game. This year, at least as far as I can see, EA has changed the ratings system a bit and I have a bit of trouble rating them realistically. How would you rate these guys?
Mark Jankowski
Johnny Gaudreau
Patrick Sieloff
Bill Arnold
John Ramage
Matt DeBlouw
Jon Gillies

Weird that Sieloff isn't there considering he plays in the OHL.

Well, guessing from last year, it seems that EA just puts the same CHL rosters in the game like last year and updates them at some point in November or December.

For Sieloff, I put him at 68 overall. Low on the offensive stats, high on the defensive stats, and average on the skating stats.
I also put him as a green 4-star prospect because I'm super biased and optimistic about him, but realistically he should be a 3.5 star prospect.
The rest I didn't create. If I were to create them though, I'd put Gaudreau basically even with Sven. 4.5-5 star prospect. Jankowski I'd put as a 4-star prospect, but with a low-ish overall because he has so much raw talent.

well, I now created them and tried to rate them, but it's still a work in progress ... I simmed three seasons in the Be a GM mode to see how they develop. Here's how I rated them:
Mark Jankowski: playmaker, 57 OV, 4 potential (red)
Johnny Gaudreau: sniper, 60 ov, 4 potential (red)
Bill Arnold: 2-way forward, 62 ov, 2.5 potential (yellow)
Patrick Sieloff: defensive d-man, 55 OV, 2.5 potential (green)
Matt Deblouw: 2-way forward, 52 OV, 3 potential (yellow)
Jon Gillies: 55 OV, 2.5 potential (yellow)
John Ramage: defensive d-man, 66 OV, 2.5 potential (green)
Results varied ... Jankowski and Gaudreau were given the same potential, but they developed quite differently.
Jankowski: 73 after year 1, 81 after year 2, 84 after year 3
Gaudreau: 63 after year 1, 65 after year 2, 67 after year 3
Sieloff: 70 after year 1, 75 after year 2, 76 after year 3
Ramage: 74 after year 1, 75 after year 2, 76 after year 3
Deblouw: 67 after year 1, 70 after year 2, 71 after year 3
Arnold: 73 after year 1, 73 after year 2, 74 after year 3
Gillies: 70 after year 1, 72 after year 2, 72 after year 3

Even EA has a bias for short players.
Can't wait until Gaudreau becomes a star in real life.

Anything below 3 stars is awful. Won't amount to anything.
Prospects need to be at least 3.5 stars, and even then, if they aren't playing on the first line, they'll be lucky to crack 80 overall.
I think it's best to have them around 4 stars and then let them develop in the positions you want them in. Their overalls at the end will reflect their role.

Good news is that Jankowski is turning into a franchise C.

What would a good rating be for Cervenka? I'm not terribly fimiliar with his playing style, but I pushed him up to an 80

I think that's fair.
I put him up around Hudler and Stempniak's level for now until I see what he's really like.

Ok awesome
I used Stajan as a player to work off of, I figured it wouldn't be crazy to have Cervenka more offensive and less defensive than him. I expect Hudler numbers out of him (50ish points). I also compared his KHL stats to Jagr's, and his rating in NHL 12 when he came back
