Avangard Omsk beats Barys 5-3 today. Ramo in net for the win.
HIFK lost 4-3 to Jokerit in a shootout today. Ortio faced 50 shots (and made 47 saves), Granlund didn't play.

Turner Elson is on Red Deer's pre-season roster, as per WHL.ca.

Does that mean he's competing with Charles Inglis and Adam Kambeitz for the overage spots on Red Deer?
IIRC, don't WHL teams allowed three overage spots?

Every team gets three, but they don't have to pare it down until October 11. Plenty of time for the dozen or so WHLers with pro deals in their back pockets to figure out if there's an NHL season or not.

Other than RNH were there any other Red Deer "grads"? I think Elson might have a good shot at returning to Red Deer.

The Rebels only have three 1992-born players (Elson, Charles Inglis and Adam Kambeitz) on their roster right now, but a LOT of teams have a LOT of 20-year-olds. The Hitmen have SIX. So for the Rebels, it's a question of whether one of Calgary's 20-year-olds (or anyone else's) is better than any of the three they have right now.

Coda Gordon had a big night last with 2 goals, 2 assists,+4 in a 8-2 win over Edmonton. It really means nothing since he and his Swift Current teammates feasted on a 15 year old kid who will only get better with more experience.

With Coda Gordon it sucks knowing that he scored 30 goals and more than 50 points in his rookie season. That's a hell of a rookie season and it'll be hard to temper my expectations of him.

If he works non-stop on his skating you might not have to temper your expectations at all.

I liked the Coda Gordon pick. Hopefully he improves.

The KHL regular season begins today! Avangard Omsk takes on Dynamo Moscow later today. I have heard of literally NOBODY on Dynamo Moscow, so hopefully that bodes well.

I don't think it will mean anything unfortunately. Dynamo are the defending champs and I only recognize Filip Novak on both rosters for this year and last.

I don't know where to put this but one of our prospects got some props on a SI article.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...?sct=nhl_wr_a1
The Calgary Flames created a lot of buzz with their selection of Mark Jankowski with the 21st pick in June, but their second rounder is ready to build some of his own. American-born Pat Sieloff has been a beast in his first training camp with the Windsor Spitfires. Acquired in the trade last season that sent Dallas Stars first-rounder Jack Campbell to Sault Ste. Marie, the 18-year-old defender is earning comparisons to Detroit's Niklas Kronwall for his robust, physical play.
"If he's hitting his teammates like this," one scout said after a recent scrimmage, "I can't wait to see him when he goes up against the guys he's supposed to hurt."
A strong start to the OHL season should earn the US National Team Development Program grad a spot with Team USA at the 2013 World Juniors.

Brett Kulak scored a goal and was a minus in a 4-7 loss to Kamloops tonight.
