I just watched that fight. I really think every judged event should be out of the olympics. There is just too much at stake and clearly example after example shows that people can't be objective.

I love watching boxing, but its garbage. Don't even get me started on events like gymnastics, synchronized swimming/diving, figure skating, etc. Half of these things aren't competitive to begin with, but throw in cash for the nations sporting body, cash for medals from the countries themselves and the corruption rears its head.

Just saw the highlights of the boxing match... how do you mess that up?

And how can you reject the appeal without making a comment? What is this? Certainly it must be a joke. The athletes deserve answers for such awful mistakes.

It makes me want to avoid watching the Olympics altogether. What's the point?

Not suprised there was plenty of buzz leading into the Olympics that boxing will be under heavy scrutiny before the London Olympics even began.
That the GB boxers will have decisions going there way throughout the tournament.
The unfortunate thing about what a farce Oylmpic boxing has become is that is extremely rare for a boxer to K.O his opponent with heavy head gear on. Even if a opponent gets into the slightest trouble the ref immediatly steps in and its an automatic 8 count.
Also forget about trying to score points while inside fighting which at the pro level sets up a KO.
Boxers can't put the fight in their own hands anymore in the Olympics
Appeal rejected without explanation only further demonstrates how crooked that boxing in the Olympics has become since Korea 1988, its only become even worse since this new stupid punch count system was developed.

yeah it's just awful.

How does a countback system

A) not count who won more rounds

or

B) not count who won the last round.

Maybe I'm using my high jump logic here (most misses in the competition, then most misses in the last round). But a countback system where they don't tell you what the countback is! Of course it's rigged!

Well, as far as Canada getting pushed around at the Olympics, I think there is quite a history here. I mean from Sale-Pelletier.... or even Ben Johnson. It was well known that just about everyone else was juicing at the time, but the Olympic Committee didn't want to go after the American athletes and the clout they hold. So they waited until a Canadian won a major event to crack down on. If you are a smaller country and up against some Goliath nation, particularly in a judged or referred sport, you have to be heads and tails above them.

I remember when Sale-Pelletier were given silver when the world knew they deserved gold. They did a poll asking who people thought won and it came out 96% to 4%. Bob Costas said "That poll is in the "Should we give food to poor orphans?" territory".

I don't think "Should we give food to poor orphans?" would get 96%.

LOL at the Russian high jumper who misplaced his shirt and won gold anyways.

Edit: and the American who got silver talked to the bar, "come on, man!"

agree,

The truth of the matter is that really good boxers that can fight perimeter and inside, counter punch, use footwork to show different angles and deliver punches from several angles go on to become successful pros but in the Olympics rarley do they win or even compete at the Olympics.
The way this hokey punch count system is designed in which 1 judge can counter the other judges if he doesn't click his counter. The judging system at this level of boxing is broken.
But the IOC likes the boxing just fine this way so they can maintain control over this sport though the appointed judges. JMO.

The majority of the called boxers that manipulate this garbage in the Olympics and benefit from this crooked arangement of judging can't fight beyond that and have a very short shelf life as a pro because they really can't fight.
They become nothing more than local club fighters and pack it in once they have had their butt handed to them one to many times by a real pro.
Or they never fight again when their lame Olympic career is over.

Question: do we actually know that Freddie Evans (Custio Clayton's opponent) didn't get penalized within the tied scoring? Does the referee have to actually signal a penalty or something?

yes the ref would turn to each corner and put up 1 or 2 fingers to signify that is the amount of the deduction after the infraction. It did not occer in the bout.

If you are an Olympic boxer, here's what you should do to win the fight. Hold, hold and push the other guy. Try to cheat as much as you can because the referee doesn't care how many infractions do you make. It seems like the boxer that keeps on receiving the punch gets the points. It sucks we will not see the best boxers for Gold Medal fights.

That will talked about for along time, a classic memory and instant moment in Canadian Olympic history.
I really thought he would be asked to lead the Stampede parade in 2011 but they had those 2 American reality TV bozos instead.
Jon Montgomery would have been the people's choice if given the chance.
