Just back from Calgary
Went up to Calgary for the day today and it was the first time ive been into Chinook mall since the new shops opened. That is now one of the best malls ive ever shopped in.
I thought that the opening of Crossiron Mills (i think thats what it was called) would take people away from Chinook. But i believe the renovations of Chinook has put it ahead of it.
Just my opinion though.

i like the new portion of Chinook - it seems very open and airy (fairy).......i also like crossiron; however, given the distance from my house (i live in new brighton) - i am not prepared to make the huge drive to crossiron - also crossiron seems more like a discount mall - something chinook is definetly not.....

Yeah, can't really compare the two. CrossIron has alot of outlet style stores.

Between Chinook, Market, Southcentre and Cross Iron, Calgary has four above average malls.

And don't forget the Core downtown. It may turn out to be the best of the bunch.
Depending on ones income unfortunately.

Crossiron Mills seems like a place where humanity goes to die.
The Core looks pretty fantastic from what I've seen so far....it should be quite the high-end mall when it comes on board.

Same could be said for Chinook. I've worked there. Now the smell of the place even gets to me.

Aaaaaaa, Deer Valley mall. I think I personally kept the hobby shop open in the 90's buying pack after pack of Upper Deck cards. Does the fair still stop in every year and almost kill 4-5 people?

What's there to explain? It's a bland and tacky mall with a horribly contrived design in the middle of nowhere that takes away life from the city. It has a few ok stores, but generally is a giant waste of time (and time is what you'll be wasting trying to get in and out of that place).

My wife drug me there and I didn't think it was great at all. Half the new stores are still under construction, and the rest of them were A) either already in the mall and just switched locations or B) stores for nozzles that want to look like they are more important than they are (Coach, Burberry, etc.)
My wife looked at a scarf, and it was $350 bucks at Burberry. We do pretty good for ourselves, and it's something we could afford, but only someone with a real inferiority complex would spend $350 on a scarf. I left there shaking my head wondering how the hell there were that many people in Calgary willing to shell out that kind of money to keep a store like that in business.
The funny thing is, the people who actually can afford it, aren't the people who are shopping there. Kind of sad. Much like a casino.
