It's great that Playfair expects more from Backlund. Not to make excuses for Backlund, because if he has to play better, he has to play better, but I wonder if his playing 90 games this year at a pro level (travel, competition) was starting to wear on him?
Hopefully, the kid learns from this and strives to play every game as Playfair says he's capable of doing, because the big club is going to need him.

Not surprising with all the vitrol that is being spewed in the media regarding the Flames that the Calgary paper would have a more negative view of Playfair's comments than another paper.
Just one more reason to take anything the media produces with a grain of salt.

Is Carter Bancks Flames property? I keep hearing that he's a recent WHL graduate promoted to the AHL, but he wasn't drafted by anyone, and I don't recall hearing about him being signed...

Really strong meat & potatoes player. Good grinder. Not the best hand in the world, but he always seemed to hustle.

Life ain't bad when you can live in Switzerland for a while and get paid for playing hockey. Good luck to him and may they pronounce his name right.

So I just noticed Spencer Bennett was born on October 31st 1990.
Will he be considered an overager in the WHL next year?

I think the cut off date for draft age is sometime in Sept or Oct. Not sure if the WHL uses the same date.

Sutter said on the radio yesterday that Bennett would go back to the W as an overager because he's not yet ready to move on.

Henrik Bjorklund had a goal in the opening game for Rogle this season. A 6-5 loss. He was loaned to Rogle in the Allsvenskan by Farjestad.

I think he can be one of those late round steals. Everyone we drafted from the 09 draft look promising. Let's see!

I am sure Reggie or something will create one shortly with all the helpful links and whatnot. Great to see the first update of the season though.

I don't actually follow the Finnish league, but I noticed that Ortio got his first start in the SM league tonight. TPS has started the season extremely poorly and the coach benched the number one goalie Engren.
Looks like Ortio did better than him, even though his team lost 3-0. He made 47 saves. Seems like he was the one positive thing for the deeply troubled TPS, so he might get more starts.
At least to me this gives the impression that there's a chance there will be some real competition for the number one spot this year.
