Default "Borat" To Portray Freddie Mercury

Interesting:

http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/2010/09/17/15381021.html

"Borat" star Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play flamboyant rocker Freddie Mercury in a dramatic feature focusing on his glory days as the frontman of Queen, its producers said Thursday.

The untitled film is being written by Peter Morgan, the British scribe behind "The Queen" and "The Last King of Scotland." No director is attached yet.

I don't know what kind of movie this will be. It won't be family movie if they show Freddie's wild years in Munich. He had some epic parties.

I can actually see it. He is a pretty good character actor in general.

I always knew I was a star And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me.

I think we'll see how good of an actor Sacha Baron Cohen actually is. Great voice actor, knows how to test people's limits, but can he pull off dramatical. I can't imagine it will go over well if this ends up being Borat-esk.

Should be an interesting film, and a different side of Cohen we've never seen before.

Baron Cohen has actually stepped into Mercury's assless chaps before: Introducing Green Day at the 2005 VMAs as Borat, Cohen role-played, "Hello it is me, Freddie Mercury. I joking, he die of AIDS." With the producer of Traffic and the writer of The Last King of Scotland onboard we're guessing Cohen's performance will transcend parody.

He was pretty good in Sweeney Todd (imo).

Hope he doesn't fall into the Jim Carrey class of actors where you can't take him seriously, although Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was well done by Carrey so who knows.

Sasha is a fantastic actor its just we tend to see him in over the top roles in North America.

I dare you to find a more dramatic scene than Cohen racing Ferrel to the finish line on foot at Talladega.

Say what you will about Freddie's "preferences", but he truly was a god amongst men. One of the best voices Rock n Roll has ever seen.

Still get choked up to this day watching that video. Man he was in rough shape, but I truly believe he made that video as a farewell to his fans. Talk about a song with a poignant message.

Along with DIO, Mercury's death was one that really hurt me. I still remember the day I heard it on the radio driving home from school. Choked me up pretty bad.

RIP Freddie.

The fact that he created and got so into characters like Borat and Bruno etc is because he is such a good actor. I think he is going to blow this role away, can't wait to see it.
