Read this burn, http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...&Number=130036

Most people don't have an oil monitor and I worry that people don't consider water contamination from condensation, short trips don't burn off the water/fuel contamination.

I do alot of short trips so I change my oil every 3 months regardless of mileage.

I avoid short triping my truck because its diesel, so I drive our car to work and for errands. Most of my mileage is highway out to bc and back. I don't worry too much about water because the fuel filter has a water separator.

I have always used sythetic in our 05 civic and just did our first sythetic change in our '10 Equinox. I'm just looking to extend my oil change intervals. Pretty much 16000k between changes on my civic for 4 years and still purrin and 317k. I am driving about 99% highway so that obviously helps.

Mine measures the same things. If it can go 15,000 on dino then the same mileage on synthetic should be fine. The big benefits for me are winter starting, and turbo life. I was mostly referring to older vehicles 15 years or older. I put synthetic in a 89 mustang and it leaked way worse than conventional 10-30.
Yeah for sure. If your vehicle is happy to go 15,000 on conventional oil, then the increased durability of synthetic oil is an added benefit since its providing better lubrication as it nears end of use. Plus the benefits as noted regarding your turbo.

Thats why its an absolute whore to work on. 40 hours book time to do the head gaskets. Funny thing even with all the fuel filtering systems, quite a few guys go aftermarket and get 5 micron bypass fuel filters. I cant justify going that route since our fuel quality in Alberta is pretty good.
