Who cares? We get it, you like Lady Gaga and so does a lot of the general public. What did you expect when you made this thread, everyone would join in on your love in and sing Gaga together?
Lots of us don't like her, think she's crap and you should just except that. A lot of people drink Budweiser too, doesn't make it great beer.

I agree Budwieser is crap. I expected what happend. A discussion.

Sorry it's not like the Flames Talk forum where everyone is expected to just agree that the Flames are the best and then when someone says something else all hell breaks loose.

This is what I wanted. A discussion.

Fox? That was a great pointless shot at FoI, nice to see you back. Lady Gaga is as fleeting as a fart in the wind, thankfully she should be gone soon.

Sorry fox, but thank you for the gold star. My opinion is that lady gaga is terrible and will be forgotten relatively quickly. Your question is how famous will she get, yeah? Well, IMO other than with teeny boppers she isn't getting much more famous. Relax, you don't have to take any posters down or anything.

wtf is fox?

On what ground do you think she'll be forgotten quickly? Teeny boppers? Most of her music is a fix on the mainstream club scene. I'd say her main audience is young adults. Don't really think "Opps I did it again" rocked the clubs.

The grammys are as relevent to quality music as Eklund is to hockey trades.

Why? You don't have to agree with the Best Artist and other general catagories but the genre specific ones seem pretty solid.

mainstream clubbers and teeny boppers are the same people. 18-19 year olds, more air than brain and don't want to hear music that will make them think.
Maybe you weren't old enough to club at the time, but "Oops I did it again" and a bunch of other Britney songs soon after were all big club hits.
Gaga is no different, except uglier.
She'll be quickly forgotten because this demographic buys music based on what's "hot" and like to switch the the next flavor of the month very fast. Either that, or they grow up a little and start paying attention to the lyrics and desiring something more.

Only if the scope of music you listen to is minuscule. Which for most people, it is. So yes, the general population that listens to Jack FM or Vibe on the way to work will generally think the Grammy's are the cream of the crop.

I don't view the grammy's as any type of authority on music in the slightest way. They have been ignoring great music in favour of commercial products for years now. Its a farce.

The grammy's are a celebration of business, not a celebration of music.

Lyrics are just one tiny part of music. People put way too much thought into that. Especially when its dance music. The whole point of dance is to get you dancing. When I go into a club the last thing I wanna hear is thought provoking lyrics.

"That girl was hot, Another Shot?"
"Yeah, just hold on, I really like this song, it talks about genocide in Darfur and other war crimes. You should really stop and think"

lol I actually heard an interview where she said that the performance earlier was suppose to be a tribute or metaphor for Princess Diana's death "to fame" and that the outfit above that she wore after was suppose to be a continuation of that perfromance and symbolize diana being a "Maurder of fame"

Hence why I don't think she corporate cookie cutter. I just think she's messed in the head and knows how to make good music.

From what I've seen the demographics of Lady Gaga's fan base seems to be a little different than Britney Spear's was.

More specifically, Lady Gaga has a strong following in the gay community. As long as she can keep making somewhat fresh sounding club music there will always be some kind of market for her.

You're trying to have it both ways.
Here you're arguing that being mindless dance pop is ok, because it serves a purpose. (I would agree with this, but just admit it is what it its.)

On the other hand you keep arguing with people calling Gaga mindless dance pop, or manufactured pop etc. etc. and acting like she is some revolutionary original artist who deserves respect as a talented innovative artist who will be around for 20 years.

Which one is it? is she an artistic genius who will be around for decades, or a dance club hit maker for turning your brain off to and having a good time?

The gay community is one of the most fickle, trendy markets out there. Unless she becomes a gay icon like Madona, they will move on to the latest fad of the season.

She can be both. Case and point Madonna. I think she makes pop dance. A genre like you said, serves a purpose and caters to a specific audience. Madonna and Lady Gaga are VERY similar. Would you call Madonna a mindless popstar?

On top of that, I'm pretty sure Madonna doesn't write her own music where as Lady Gaga does.

Mindless and Corporate invokes terms like useless and "just a face" which I don't think can apply to Lady Gaga. Just because she decided that she likes making pop music instead of Classical or rock, in my opinion, doesn't make her any worse then a highly successful artist in those genres.

I think she belongs in the group of artists that if they applied themselves in the same way to another genre, would dominate that genre as well. Like if MJ decided he wanted to be a rockstar or John Lennon wanted to be a classical composer or Robert Plant wanted to be a popstar or a Jazz aritst.

I get sick of people dismissing credible artists just because they produce music in a different genre then what they listen to. On top of that, Pop music has so many negative connotations associated with it, that 99% of artists who are involved with are dismissed immediately as just a face even though there are a few that are really talented. Including the behind the scenes writers (which lady gaga used to be).
