I am not going to spend hours and hours just making offers including players you dont like, the messages go something like this:
Me -"Hi is X player available?"
You -"yes - make me an offer"
Me - "how about Y player for X player?"
You - "nope, dont like him"
Me - "Ok how about Z player for X player?"
You - "nope, dont like him"

I find just the opposite
Teams that are interested in a player don't even make an offer now days, they expect you to make and offer trading them the player they want.
GM: Is Jeff Carter available?
"Canes: The thought of trading him hasn't crossed my mind but anything is possible.
GM: What would it take on my roster to get him?
It's amazing, now I'm put in the position to offer my player away to this team because they won't open up the talks with an offer. For all I know they aren't serious about acquiring Carter and are just fishing to see if they get him for something less then they would have offered.
The team looking to acquire the player should be the one that 1st proposal to the table to show that they are interested and serious. This way both teams have a clue if the deal is workable. I hate looking up and down someones roster for 20 minutes researching prospects to only find out that the other team was only looking to move a 5th or something.
If the deal needs haggling, then it's not going to happen. I don't haggle in real life and not here. There's plenty of teams in this league that do straight up deals... best to know the GM's that go the straight up route and those that enjoy the haggle. Trying to haggle a straightup guy will not happen.
Most all negotiations fall through with me are ones where only my players are on the board, and only ?? and +'s from the other GM... example Thornton for 65ov, + and a pick
The secret is to know which GM's are which and try to adjust your negotiations to that. There is no right or wrong way. Just a bunch of round and square pegs
