Default Internet issues...

Here is my problem,

1 desktop Dell, 1 laptop.

The laptop connects to the internet perfectly fine with minimal speed issues.

Using the cable connected to the desktop and response is very slow.

I have updated the network driver on the laptop but no difference.

The only other difference is that the laptop is new and the desktop is 4-5 yrs old.

Thoughts ???

Are you using the same cable to connect the laptop as the desktop? If so, are you also disabling the wireless on the laptop?

If it's the exact same connection then the problem must be on the computer.

I would make sure the network card on the desktop is set to 100 and full duplex; if it's half duplex it will not send and receive at the same time; it will wait for traffic.

Other than that you likely have something slowing down the desktop. Which is why I rebuild my own PC every 6-12 months.

K, little confused, you say the laptop connects fine. How is it connected? The desktop is slow WHILE the laptop is connected or all the time? Why did you updated the drivers on the laptop if it's connecting fine?

To add to this - lock it at 100/full, don't rely on auto-sensing to set the speed, even if it says its running at 100/full

Same connection cable, same modem, two computers. No wireless available.

Cleaned up spyware and un-installed some useless software.

Locked at 100/full but I still need more speed cap'n.......

Have you tried installing a fresh browser; like Firefox or Chrome?

I just keep coming back to it being some setting or software on the computer.
