Default Giant Computer Problem

My laptop has frozen 5 times in the last hour, it just freezes and I have to reboot it. I can't even get to safe mode. It's a Dell with Vista. Please help!!

The best thing for a giant computer is to get a smaller computer.

Run a check on the disk (right click on it, properties, tools, error checking), could be a problem with the drive. Does it sound unusual?

Could also be a memory problem, if your laptop has 2 memory sticks in it, running with just one and then just the other to see if it changes.

If it can't even get into safe mode that's usually a bad sign, what happens when you try to boot into safe mode? (Hit F8 while booting to get the menu to choose safe mode).

You can also choose the last known good configuration from that menu, but if you've updated or installed new drivers recently the last known good may remove them.

When I try to get to safe mode it just freezes.

I''l run the error check on the disk shortly.

I haven't installed anything in a week or so. Drivers even longer

Disk appears to be fine, could MSN be causing it? It was open for each crash. Running a virus scan now. Seems to be fine, the crash usually happened by now.

Would be weird for it to be MSN, but who knows, I've seen buggy network drivers that only started to crap out once I installed MySQL on a computer to do some work.

Well if vista is still sort of operable while it is frozen, it may be logging things into the reliability monitor that can be brought up when you right-click my computer then left click on manage-reliability and performance.

There's a reliability monitor there that's helpful in diagnosing what programs are fouling up the works.
