Default 360 Question.

Pro = 349.99
Arcade = 279.99

What is the difference in terms of features?

I don't remember precisely what comes in each box, but the Pro comes with a 20 GB hard drive, whereas the Arcade only comes with a 256 MB memory unit. If I recall correctly you may need a hard drive to use Xbox Live.

You should also get a 1 month trial of Xbox Live Gold (the version where you can play with friends), whereas the Arcade does not.

The arcade does come packed in with a few Xbox Live Arcade games. I'm not 100% certain what the games are at the moment.

In my personal opinion you should buy a Pro if you are in the market, as it's the only way to roll if you are interested in playing online or downloading extra content (extra content for games, videos, demos). A hard drive will cost you at least $100 bucks if you buy it separately.

I hope this helps a little bit, I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, let me know if you have any other questions.

The elite comes with a 120GB HDD, and if you can do it I suggest it, I'm constantly running out of space downloading demos. It's 20GB, but 8GB goes to the 360 itself so you only get access to about 12.

DO NOT BUY AN ARCADE, unless you don't like saving. Essentially what the guy at Future Shop told me is that it is like an actual arcade, whereby you cannot save games. and everytime you play will be like the first time, hence the name arcade. I think this means it just has no Hard Drive. So, if you ever plan to play, say NHL 08, you will not be able to have a dynasty or anything.

Last time I checked, the arcade came with a wired controller as well, where the pro comes with a wireless. Doesn't the pro always come with a game bundled as well?

You can still save with an Arcade, they do have memory cards.

As flip said, do not buy an arcade. Im not sure if you actually cant save as I would assume you could use the memory card. Regardless, its not that much extra for a hard drive that you should be using. Downloading demos, saving games, importing music, getting downloadable content, etc need the HDD. Unless you are the most casual of casual gamers I wouldn't consider the arcade.

The 360 has exclusive DLC for GTA IV and other games have additional content, tracks, maps, etc (COD 4, Halo 4, Mass Effect, GH3) which you will not be able to download much of with the arcade.

If you plan on downloading a lot of extra game content (ex. map packs in Halo, extra songs in Rock Band) or non-gaming content (themes and skins, trailers, game demos, movies, whatver) then don't buy an Arcade model. If none of that stuff concerns you, get an Arcade with a memory card. It will still save your game profile and track your achievements in addition to any game saves you have.

Whatever works for you.

If anyone did buy an arcade and wants to get a harddrive to save DLC and stuff, i saw a poster selling his 360 harddrive at the buy/sell forum.

Yeah I think I'll just pick up a pro then. Arcade seems like a pile of garbage.

What about warranty? Can you extend through the retailer or do you have to go through xbox to do it? Obviously I don't want to be hit with an RROD.

You can do it through Microsoft, that's probably a better option than through the retailer, their warranties always seem shady.

MS gives a 3 year warranty on RROD from time of purchase. Standard warranty is one year on everything else.

ya don't touch the arcade. as for warranty, you will be covered for the red ring for 3 years, but a couple of my friends have lost theirs and the red rings weren't involved. I would get the longest warranty possible.

Not that I am condoning this but...

If I had a problem with my 360 that was not the RROD but called and said I did, would they not just send me a coffin and I could get a new one? I understand that with the RROD it is not permanent so even if they opened it and it did not have it they would not care. Any thoughts?

From what I know of the RRoD, it is permanent damage to the main circuit board caused by excessive heat. Usually melting or scorching is involved at some point.

You could do this, but you may find yourself without and Xbox and holding a shipping receipt that MS expects you to pay.
