NCIX is a good place, I've had pretty good service experiences with them (though not for a full system).

Though with an Acer you'd be dealing with Acer for warranty, not NCIX I assume.

Seems like a not bad price, I'm not sure how Acer's service is though.

Ya it looks like Acer warranty after 30 days...
NCIX provides a 30 day limited warranty on this product. The remainder of the 1 year warranty is provided by the manufacturer.

Have you heard anything about Acer as a manufacturer? Good or bad? Would you recommend anything else?

I agree with photon - NCIX has been good with me for quite a few purchases over many years.

Seems like a good system, but the only thing to be aware of is that it comes with an integrated video card. Ok if you are just smurfing the weeb or doing spreadsheets, but any type of heavy gaming will require a new stand alone card.

No heavy gaming at all...this is simply as you suggested...home office stuff, Microsoft Office, Web, Business software applications.

Is the 2GB DDR2 Ram ok?

They always seem to have decent products on sale...

sale stuff

If you are only doing home things, you could probably get a full system with monitor for around that price then.

You are paying a premium on that system because its a quad core and in my opinion nothing you will need for home/business use.

We've used their laptops before and they're ok, seemed to be average as far as maintenance was concerned.

I've always liked Dell systems, they have a sale on their Vostro small business systems I think:

More expensive though than the Acer.

Another option is to just get a generic system from Memory Express.

Agreed, if you're not gaming or doing media encoding and stuff like that, a dual core system is probably just as good.

I like Dell as well.

Here, you can pick up a system for less than that Acer and it comes with a 19" LCD.

Aren't you in Waterloo though? Would it be easier to buy from say...Canada Computers instead of NCIX which is in Vancouver because of the shipping costs? (Unless you have NCIX points for free ground shipping).

Here's something I put together from NCIX for you to browse.

1. Antec Sonata III case and 500 watt PSU- $108.99
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...C&promoid=1008
This is a good case and a decent powersupply.

2. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard- $93.98
Inexpensive but up to date board and I've heard good reports on it.
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...e&promoid=1008

3. Western Digital SE 16 500GB Hard Drive- $101.98
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...l&promoid=1008
Lots of room for pictures or other downloads

4. Corsair XMS2 Twin2X2048-6400 2GB....Memory -$24.99 with $30 MIR
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...R&promoid=1008
Decent memory at good price. You need two GB for Vista

5. Pioneer DVR-212D Black DVD-R.... Burner- $29.99
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...r&promoid=1008

6. Arctic Cooling Arctic Fan.......- $5.99
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...g&promoid=1008
You'll need a front fan for this case

7. Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit OEM - $109.98
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...t&promoid=1008

8. Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Dual Core Processor LGA775 Conroe 2.33GHZ 1333FSB 4MB Retail - $179.98
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...l&promoid=1008
Good up to date processor

9. Palit Radeon 2600XT Sonic 800MHZ 1.4GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E VGA DVI-I HDMI Video Card - $99.99
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27451&vpn=AE%2F260XS%2BHD21&manufact ure=Palit%20Multimedia%20Inc.&promoid=1008
I was going to suggest an ATI 3850 for about $180 but this will do since you won't be doing much gaming. This 2600XT card can also be connected to your HD TV and will resolve 1080p if you decide to download movies or install a blueray DVD player.

10. PC Assembly and Testing Without OS Installation - $25.00
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...facture=NCIXPC
They have to install the OS to test it and in my case they just left it in since I bought it anyways or else you can pay $50 for asembly and OS installation.

I've left out the keyboard, mouse etc but this gives the basics at what I consider value for money.

Total is $780.78 before taxes and shipping
