When I saw this, I called Rogers about my bill. They dropped it by $30/month, which means I'm paying $55/month for basically the same thing listed above. No US texting though.

Wow, that is an amazing plan. How is the coverage around Calgary?

I don't really like any of the phones, has anyone tried buying a T-Mobile phone and using it on Wind?

Cool, saw this on RFD and was looking for some local opinions on Wind coverage. Anyone have Wind that can comment?

I checked out their coverage page for Calgary and I am just outside their area in NW Tuscany, but it does say by the 2010 the area should be included.

RFD link for any who are interested

So is it safe to say that Wind has won? Because Telus, Rogers are for the most part offering a lot of better deals lately as well.

Don't you love competition?

I have this exact same deal, for $35, with Mobilicity. It's pretty great -- no contract kicks ass. Unlimited long distance is also pretty good.

The downside of wind is you have to stay in their 'zone' to use their services or you get charged. So you're pretty much stuck in the city. I find it hard to use 500 mb of data.

That's an amazing deal. With Wind and Mobilicity showing up, prices for services look to be dropping sooner rather than later.

Though i just signed a contract so its all moot discussion to me at this point =(

Well... too late now for me to consider anything. Hopefully by the time my contract expires Mobilicity and Wind services will be better and we don't have to worry about these zone issues anymore.

If you are concerned about coverage, go here to see WIND's signal strengths in various areas of Calgary (zoom in and each red pin is a cell tower):

Why anyone would lock themselves into a contract in this new competitive era is beyond me. It's worth it to wait and see with your old phone before you sign another ludicrous 3 year contract.

Wind Mobile does not use contracts, everything is month-to-month. Therefore, they do not subsidize phones either.

That's not entirely true. Get WindTab and you get your phone $150 off - which goes on your "tab". 10% of monthly bill goes towards paying down your tab. If you leave before you tab is fully paid, you pay whatever's left. So if Bell/Telus/Rogers give you a $250 dollar subsidy, over three years a $3/month saving on your monthly bill covers the difference.
