Awesome read so far. I've been flipping back and forth to it all morning and it has some really fascinating insight. Time to read day 13.

Ah, to be young and/or crazy! Congo is about the 2nd last place on earth I'd want to visit right after Somalia... Great read so far.

Ya I apologize for the length, I posted the article when I was on Day 16 figured it had to end soon
But definitely worth the read. What an absolutely crazy adventure that would be.

Long read for sure. It took me most of the evening last night to read it. Certainly worth it though. Cool adventure... I kept wondering how my wife and I would react in similar situations.

The perseverance of those two. Incredible.

I'm only partway through...
My wife is not good at what you would call roughing it... We have done a few backpacking trips in k-country and have hit up Thailand for our honeymoon but this is so far past what our comfort zone would be. It is a very exciting read so far though.
I would never want to put my wife in that kind of situation. I am not criticizing them for doing it, it's their lives, but wow...

I am thinking the exact same thing. One of the best stories I have read in a long time.
Thanks for sharing - and don`t apologize for how much reading is there, the more the better!

That was crazy-- wow. My wife's parents lived in Congo until the early 90's-- some terrible stories. Still not sure if those guys were cool and adventurous or just insane.

Definitely a real good mix of all of the above. I get protective of my wife in places like Turkey, like anyonebutedmonton I can't imagine a couples trip on this kind of journey.

Great find, enjoyed reading it. Not sure how I would have acted in some of those situations. Also, the fact they had been on the road for 2 years already was pretty cool.

Just getting through the first few pages, and I think I finally understand that "excuse" proponents of immigrants use when they say that some immigrants simply do not trust police officers. In some countries being a policeman is a license to steal.

I'm on page 13 and if this thing ends with
"and that's how I became the prince of a town called bel-air" I'm going to be pissed.
