Default Native Americans sue U.S. over solar power plant in desert

http://www.energycentral.com/news/en/17647118/

Quote:
A Native American tribe has filed a lawsuit against the federal government in an attempt to block construction of Tessera Solar's Imperial Valley solar power plant in the Sonoran Desert.

The 709-megawatt solar farm, planned for more than 6,000 acres of public land near El Centro, wrapped up its approval process in October.

But the Quechan tribe alleged in a complaint against the Interior Department that the installation could damage "cultural and biological resources of significance."

...

Tessera now joins BrightSource, SunPower and other solar energy firms that have been stymied, if only temporarily, by wildlife concerns on proposed solar farm sites.

I think that the Natives should be allowed to present their solutions. I haven't done a lot of reading into it but I'm sure the Natives in the States have made amazing leaps and bounds into clean energy research.

What? Oh C'mon. Everything I've seen in Hollywood movies indicates to me that Natives are a peaceful, Earth loving people. I'm sure they have amazing scientific advances to share with us in this field.

Actually, it's called "extortion," quite a common behavior of the "North American Indian".

Yeah. Natives are still stewards of this great land. They act only in the best interest of mother earth. Did you know that 80% of native casino profits go towards environmental research and charity?

I'm always a bit taken aback by the overt discrimination shown by members of otherwise mainstream message boards and other online communities (not just CP) toward North American natives as a particular race. A lot of the same level of commentary wouldn't be nearly as acceptable if it were directed at, say, Filipinos, African Americans or East Indians.

For some reason, on any topic dealing with Native Americans, mainstream message boards start to resemble Stormfront.

Just an observation.

I don't even think it is confined to message boards. In general conversations people are fairly racist against Natives. Even without the annonymity people still feel comfortable being racist.

^Yes this is true. I mentioned messageboards mainly to use the Stormfront example.

I think that people are more openly "racist" with natives because of federal funding. I asked my brother why he hates natives so much and he said it has to do with driving thru a native reserve and see everyone at home at 2 in the afternoon with screen doors coming off the hinges yet a satellite TV and a new truck in the driveway. I agree with him in that we've done much harm to the natives of Canada by giving them welfare on top of welfare for staying on reserves.

Ive had a friend ask me this: "how many natives have you known in your life that have had their collective *bleep* together?" For me the answer was 1. :|

I don't know what you're talking about. I'm just talking about what I've heard; I genuinely feel for and sympathize with natives.
