I usually do Prince's Island Park with our little kids and it's always fun.

We usually go to a Canada Day pancake breakfast hosted by the local community organization. It's at West Market Square (Strathcona just south of Bow Trail).
 Always lots of fun.

 $5 per person.

A wild, old-fashioned Stock Horse race on western saddles with local farmers, cowboys and acreage owners to kick things off at 12:45 p.m. followed by six pari-mutual races after.

Beer gardens. Games for the kids. A day out in the country up close to the action.

I believe you meant 12:45 p.m. (45 minutes after noon). 12:45 a.m. is 45 minutes after midnight.

Do they light the flame on the Calgary Tower each year?
We just moved to a place with a direct view of it (about 4 blocks away from the tower) - I so wanna see if the heat of the flame reaches our balcony |

Should be fireworks after the Stamps game as well. Game is at 8 if anyone is looking to go. I don't know if they've sold out or not. Should be a nice night for football.

The flame will be lit this year also. I doubt you'll feel any heat though, the tower is still much higher than any nearby residential buildings.

I heard on the radio that at the Vipers game tonight there will be fireworks afterwards.

Is it lame that missing out on Canada day in Calgary makes me homesick?
My best option to celebrate is to go to Trafalgar Square where celebrations are held, but it's about a million degrees here in London the last few days and I won't be comfortable taking my new baby there in the heat. It's a shame too, as Hawksley Workman will be there and I'd love to go see.

Oh well, hopefully we'll be back in Canada next year to celebrate.

 Enjoy everyone!

^ Hey Foxy, what has 11 legs and can't climb a ladder?
 A: See your avatar.

Usually on Canada day I try to make it out to Canmore to see the bands. Makes me all nostalgic.

Probably get some wine tonight. Then spend tomorrow drinking and reading on my porch. Also, might threaten neighbourhood young 'uns with my shotgun.

Also worth mentioning is that there are no fees at Parks Canada tomorrow:Link
Saves $20; might be worth going to Banff for the day.

It will be cooling down this evening a bit, so you should go. I'll be there after work--was good fun last year. Sadly no poutine to be found, so I'll have to settle for a bison burger and some Sleeman's. Plus Perry Berezan will be there today (Colin Patterson and Lanny were there last year)! WOW!
