Default Telus torrent issues.

In the last few weeks I have noticed that I cannot download Torrents anymore, after doing some reading around I have found that Telus apparently blocked torrent downloading. I have tried port forwarding but with no success, Im using the Telus provided Modem/Wireless router which is a Siemens Gigaset se567. I was wondering if anyone else has had any issues with this problem or any other suggestions?

I just got that modem and the telus service and when I used port forwarding, i was getting close to 600 download speed, which was better than the shaw connection at half the price. You might want to check if the port you forward is not comman for torrents.

The only thing I get is a warning for excessive sessions, which I permanently ignore... I also have TelusTV.

There's pros and cons- my brother has Shaw internet and they've been trying to throttle him for years.

Do you have a torrent client that encrypts the torrent so they dont know what it is?

Yeah make sure and use a random port, not the standard port. Not that that stops them anymore as they can do deep packet inspection to figure out it is torrent traffic.

And agree with User Name, make sure and turn on encryption, I have mine set to use it if possible but not require it.

Shaw's been great for me, never had a peep from them (though I stay under my cap typically) and I saturate my link all the time.. downloading a torrent at 1.5+MB / s is cool

Same here, I'm with Shaw and zero problems with torrents, getting pretty much the same speeds as well.

Well, starting off by just stating you "suck at the internet" doesn't exactly scream "I'm trying to learn and need some direction", nor does the lack of background, what you've tried, what links you've read, what apps you're using, how you're router is currently configured, etc. What do you want anyone to suggest when you've given us nothing.

Mostly I was just hassling you.

Telus isn't blocking torrents, not even on well known ports. The hue and cry if they did this would be enormous, and there is no evidence of that at all at present time.

What client are you using? Have you turned on PnP in your client, and are relying on that for port forwarding, or have you done a proper port forwarding setup on your router? Do you have a personal firewall or other extensive antivirus/security software installed on your machine?

uTorrent is the one I use.

http://portforward.com/

Some guides on port forwarding by model, not sure if they keep it up to date.

ya Utorrent with port forwarding (on shaw xtreme) gets me over 1.5 mb per/s all the time

I switched from Telus last year and I think Shaw is a lot faster and a lot more stable, this is in Vancouver though, may be different other places

Downloading a torrent right now and am getting 6mbps. No special settings, just have the port forwarded, so I'm pretty sure telus isn't throttling. I used to get about 1.5 when downloading torrents with shaw using the same router etc.

from what I gathered, telus doesn't block torrents or throttle them like shaw does, but, they do block port forwarding (and only certain modems do this)

No, they don't block port forwarding. I'm running web servers on two different ports, RDP, SMTP, MSA, MobileMe and a couple other services all port forwarded to various internal systems.
