Default Dog kennels/accommodations

So, we leave on a family trip in a few days and our previous plans for our pet accommodations (Friday-Monday) fell through…Now I am scrambling to find a place to put the little guy up. He’s part Boston terrier, so he has lots of energy so I would prefer a place that lets him run around etc. Any one have any experience with some in the city that you use/ have good things to say about?

Any responses are appreciated.

We've taken ours to Beinnein kennels, down off of 22X. Fairly spacious runs for the animals.

And on the south side of 22X, across from Beinnein Kennels, are StoneHaven Kennels. However, the first time you take your dog there, they require you to show proof that all of your dog's immunizations are up to date.

I have heard good things about Happy Tails in Cochrane... although it is more west than north:

Never tried 'em but I have heard good things. More of a free-range stay for your dog.

Yup, the proof of immunization is required for Beinnein as well. Probably most do, best to just bring it wherever you go, or phone ahead if it's going to be a problem.

Country Club for Dogs (also off Hwy 22X) is another good one with lots of play time for the dogs, though not super cheap.

StoneHaven is where we always go. There was another one? out towards Okotoks that we used one time where we think our dog slept outside? We won't ever go back and ever since he has gotten really anxious whenever we load up suitcases etc. as he knows he is going to a Kennel and likely fears for his life

In High River there is Room to Run - this is a supplement to Heaven Can Wait the no-kill shelter. http://www.heavencanwait.ca/default.aspx

Thanks for all the replies guys! I will check a few out.

Can you expand on this COGENT? My GF was just about to book this place (down by blackfoot) until I read this and told her to hold off...

Sure, sorry for being brief.

We actually went to that one as well. We had the opportunity to bring our guy to his personal kennel. Once we got back to the area I just found it to be rows and rows and rows of dogs in kennels that were just simply a fenced area (maybe 5' x 7') on on cold cement... no attempt to make it comfortable what so ever. I noticed that there many trails of urine coming from the kennels into the drains... to be fair that could be because they weren't letting them out enough or it could be a problem those dogs have. For the incredible amount of dogs that I saw, there were not near enough staff members. I also found them to be very unorganized.

Over all, the 20 minutes I was actually there left me be to concerned for my dog.

Obviously this was my own personal experience and others may recommend them. Hope this assists you in your decision.

Well, after looking at the options, we went with: http://www.chasin-tails.ca/

I kinda like the idea of it being free range. Will post a review of my impressions on this facility upon my return. Thanks for all the help guys!

This looks like a pretty cool place for a dog holiday. How'd it go?

We took our dog there for 4 nights. We dropped him off and checked the place out. Unfortunately you cant walk around in there to really see the whole place, but there is a peep window so you can peer in and look at the dogs playing. I liked the concept as rather than keeping your dog in the kennel the whole time, they separate dogs by size and energy level in groups. That way they have company and can play with each other without getting board.

When I was there I spoke to a couple who where there and said they had been bringing their dog for a while and love it. They brought him there once a week just to play with some other dogs…kinda like a daycare.

When we picked our dog up he was pretty excited to see us, but as soon as we got him home he just fell asleep and slept pretty much the entire next day. So, basically I took that as he had a few good days of playing.

Our dog is pretty high energy so we just requested to put him in with the big dogs and the lady at the counter said he did good there…even told us about a few “friends” he made during his stay (the ones he usually played/slept with).

All in all, yes I would take him back and I do recommend it. I didn’t like the idea of leaving him caged up alone for a few days, and this place took care of both my concerns.

Only thing I can say is make sure your dog is up to date with his shots. You’ll have to bring papers from your vet when you drop him off.
