I hate to admit how many spam messages I get daily. Nearly 100! Is there a way I can reduce this or reduce my future risk of getting more? Problem, I think, is that I write newspaper financial columns and that must be how they get my address. I definitely want my address at the end of my columns. Is there some way I can reduce this nonsense? I hate spammers. Besides the column, where else could they be getting my address? I don't frequent questionable websites. I don't want to be changing my email address, which is currently firstinitiallastname@moneyguy.com.
I've heard of people routing their emails through gmail (to take care of the spam) then forwarding them back to their main account. Never tried it myself though.

Yes, find a way to get your email through gmail. I have two gmail accounts, one is my primary and one is my spam catcher. I was using my alternative gmail account to sign up for everything online for the very reason you mention. I noticed an interesting thing though ... my alt gmail account never got any spam. Now I just use my primary and gmail does a good enough job that I get less than 5 spam emails in my inbox each year.
Talk to your host/IT guy about getting your domain email hosted out of Gmail. Not only do you get some automatic spam filtering, you also get nearly endless email storage and web access wherever you are.
Just wondering if I should add spam senders to my blocked-senders list. Is this any good in dealing with spam or is it ineffective due to spammers using multiple computers.
Do the articles get posted online? If so, consider writing your email in a format that is easily readable by a human but not some script scanning for addresses.
Thanks to both of you. I already post my email address in the form suggested by blackeleven, and photon confirmed my suspicion that blocked senders will be ineffective. My problem is due to my business and public-service activities my address is in lots of places.
Those scripts are pretty sophisticated though, even better is putting the email address in an image so it's not in text at all.
No doubt. I should have specified that any format you use to post your email will probably be parseable by some script. It'll only reduce the (new) spam you receive not eliminate it.
I think I know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway:
Say I wanted to forward my example@shaw.ca emails to sr.mints@gmail.com, and sent them back to my @shaw account as a way to filter them, is there a way to set things up so the emails I receive back from Gmail are from the original sender (and not all from sr.mints@gmail.com)?
