Default Vacation Ideas? - Oct 14-18th

Just want to tap CP's collective brain trust. We'll be in Toronto for Thanksgiving but we'll have some extra time to go somewhere else from Toronto. Any ideas on a good vacation for a couple of days? I already checked cruises and stuff, but couldn't get any to work with our time frames. Cuba also seems to require a week. Vegas is out since we've been before

Thanks!

I'm going to Vegas this weekend. You can never go too many times.

Still hot down there then. Plus, Vegas is awesome.

San Francisco (my own bias). Weather is still good, rainy season hasn't started, grab a hockey/football game, Napa Valley isn't as busy, etc...

+1 for Maritimes... pretty amazing out there.

(not so much amazing as what there is to do, but the scenery in some places are just absolutely stunning)

Thanks for the quick responses. We have to do multiple flights, so I think I'll have to go through a travel agent to make things easier. Edmonton--> Toronto--> X---> Edmonton

We are very interested in:
- Orlando
- San Fran
- Vegas (you're right, can always go to Vegas)
- Somewhere in the Carribbean

Martimes is nice, but I don't think it's somewhere we want to go this time.
If it helps, we're picking a place for our anniversary

I'd avoid the Caribbean. October is hurricane season.

There are direct flights available from SF to Calgary and IIRC, Edmonton. United, Air Canada and seasonally Westjet.

If you end up going to SF, PM me and I can give you a list of to-do things, places to stay, etc...

Thanks Dude
We have to go to Toronto first though, since we're spending Thanksgivings with the gf's parents.
If we do go to SF, I'll definite PM you for details

Was just in SF for 10 days this spring, awesome place to go. PM if you want more info.

Be prepared though, food is very expensive.

So you'll be leaving Toronto on the 14th and returning to Edmonton on the 18th? You can easily book multi-city flights online (i.e. Westjet) -- no need to use a travel agent (unless you want to of course).

5 days (4 nights) including travel isn't a ton of time, so you probably don't want to waste two of those days in transit. The Carribbean would be too far, and Orlando would be pushing it IMO. I would also strike SF and Vegas from your list -- it's probably a lot more convenient (and cheaper) to take those trips from Edmonton versus Toronto.

If you're going to be in the East, you should take advantage of being in that area. Any interest in going to New York (Manhattan)? It'll be more expensive than other cities, but the experience is worth it IMO.

NYC we have been to already. ANy other ideas on the Eastern Seaboard?
We just liked SF since it was a place we both always wanted to go to, but I agree with the crazy travel to get there from TO

Have you been to Boston?

I rank it up there with SF, just an awesome city.

If you want to stay out east due to travel, Chicago would be another suggestion. Awesome city, lots of stuff to do (tours, museums, sports - Bears and Hawks), weather would still be good, great food (The Art of Pizza!), and direct flights from Toronto and to Edmonton from O'Hare.

D.C. and Boston are awesome, too. If you decide on Chicago, PM me. I lived there and loved it.

I'd suggest taking advantage of being in the east part of the country too. Montreal, Boston, New York and Chicago are all worth seeing and are great for the 3-4 day time frame you have. Miami is great as well, but may be a bit farther than you wanted to go.

My vote is for Chicago. Very cool city, particularly for a shorter trip there's a lot of things you can pack in.

Too bad it wasn't a couple days earlier because the Flames play there on October 12. (Hawks are at home on the 14th and 17th though).

Go to Gibson's Steakhouse for your anniversary dinner. Amazing place.
