FWIW, I've tried both and can't live without my blackberry. No matter what phone I try I always end up going back with Blackberry. Solid products IMO...though I do have a few dozen friends who use blackberry messenger as well so that is also a factor...I've used 4 blackberry models and currently have the Bold.

i have BB storm. i always used to be against phones like this b/c i only ever make phone calls and text.
but, i got a new phone cuz i was sick of having phones with batteries that last a few hours even when its not being used.
so, i got the storm. i love it. the touch screen was a little difficult to get used to at first, but i was used to it after about a week.
i don't use mine for business either, but i'm that person that makes plans with everyone and then forgets about it. luckily my friends know me well enough to know they need to call me the day before to remind me, but, b/c of this i use the calendar now.
i also love that it can be used anywhere in the world.
HOWEVER my roomie and a couple of other friends have an iPhone and they love it. i think both are cool. i just went with the storm b/c i'm on telus and they don't have the iPhone...otherwise, i would've had the same debate myself.

This is over simplifying, but Iphone seems to be a consumer phone, and BB is more business focused. So, Iphone would probably work better for you.

honestly, i don't think theres that many differences. you can get your email on both phones, you can answer email on both phones, you can phone/text on both phones. pretty much anything you want to do on a blackberry, you can do on the iPhone.
the differences i think...just b/c my roomie has one and we compare stuff all the time...is the apps on the iPhone. thats where BB is more business focused. but really, i think both are great phones, just need to decide if you care about all those extra apps etc...which, i have to say are pretty cool.

If you want to browse the 'net over your wireless device, you can't beat the iPhone. If you're an email junky go for the BB. Not that the iPhone doesn't have great email capabilities...

Depends... do you want a device that's primarily a phone and secondary messenging device... or do you want one that's primarily mulitmedia/apps and secondary phone?
I've tried both a iphone and BB Bold... the iphone sucked as a phone. Since I don't care about storing music on my phone, I stuck with the bold... now I'm not sure if I can live without it.

I think BlackArcher101 nails the difference between the two...I had a BlackBerry and loved it, but found that I needed/wanted a "device" with more multi-media capabilities and switched to an iPhone (and have not regretted it)

The bb is a solid product, but to me the app store is really the breaking point between the two. I love the fact that my phone can control my home stereo, control my apple tv, control my home, work and parents computer remotely, create and use a shockingly good grocery list, provide really solid video games, listen to the fan960 after a game and tune my guitar. Obviously that's not for everyone, but there are so many little apps that can fit almost any persons lifestyle.
Big dowsides to the phone in my eyes is that the email isn't awesome (yet in summer it will get a lot better) and rogers doesn't offer strong international plans (if you travel to the states a lot).

My vote definitely goes to iPhone. I am a former BB user and and I just love the intuitiveness of the Iphone, and the App store is just unreal. Everything on it is just push one button to install, or navigate. Where I found you still have the MS level of complication with the BB where you have to be a tech to do anything cool with it. I almost never use my laptop now that I have an iPhone. I would go as far to say the Iphone is the best electronic device I have ever owned.

I have and actively use both (iPhone for personal use, BB for business use).
The two are very different. The iPhone is way more fun but would not work well as a hardcore email device connected to an enterprise-level server. I rarely use email on the iPhone, but I do use it for texting short messages.
The iPhone does a lot more things (look at the app store), and even without extra apps, outclasses the BB for many functions, but does not replace the sturdy reliability of the BB.
I find the iPhone kind of flaky in that it often (every couple weeks minimum) needs hard resets, and I've had to wipe it and restore it 4 times already (about once every 2nd month) due to crashing.
The iPhone has intermittent problems connecting to various networks (3G, Wifi, or otherwise). Sometimes I have problems with phone calls staying connected on it, while the BB is flawless. I find the remote control for iTunes works only intermittently even though I have my home network set up properly.
My BB (I'm now on my 3rd version of the BB, have used them for many years) has never crashed, and might drop one call every 3 or 4 months, a sharp contrast to the iPhone.
Of course, I'm not downloading all kinds of apps onto my BB.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY DO YOU PEOPLE TYPE IT "I-phone" or Iphone?!?!!
I'm an iPhone app developer, and while I haven't used a Blackberry, the interface for the iPhone is so slick. Once you get used to using it, it's nuts how quick you get with things. I prefer the size of the iPhone as well.

I assume he's talking about the v3.0 of the OS coming for the iPhone. Don't recall much being mentioned about email in particular in the update, but there is the update coming.
As to the original question, I had an HTC Touch for about a year and just got an iPhone a couple of weeks ago. Both have their merits, but I am loving this iPhone so far. Never had a BB so I can't comment on it, but my iPhone has seemed really solid and as has been mentioned, the app store along with the "other" app stores make the iPhone a lot of fun to use.

Just my opinion, but the iPhone has always seemed to be a device more for teens, whereas the BB is more suitable for adults... I think the iPhone is neat, but don't think I'd ever swap my BB for one.

I have both an iPhone and a BB - iPhone is my personal phone, BB is my work phone - and it really depends what you want. IMO the BB is far superior in messaging functions - I use google talk, and the Berry version is amazing - and I also far prefer the email on the Berry.
The iPhone however I love because of the web browsing capabilities, the Wi-Fi, all the apps and the fact that I can store all of my music and videos on it.
You really need to decide what's more important to you - do you want more of a multi-media type phone with a crazy easy interface, or a more messaging intensive phone that will truly keep you connected 24/7 if you want?
For my personal phone, the iPhone is perfect. But I am not sure if I would be able to use it as a business phone.

I realize this is just your personal opinion, but no, I don't see it this way at all. I'm 41. The iPhone is a great device with some amazing features. It's not a "toy" or a "teen" device.
Personally I don't like the keyboards on the BB's from what I've seen. My fingers are simply too big to deal with those little keys. Not to mention I like everything pretty much on the touch screen.
As for the personal vs business argument, I use mine for business and personal. One of the sales guys where I work has an iPhone and uses it for business as well. I don't see the issue with using an iPhone for business. It's a phone, with messaging and the wifi is great.

I'm kinda surprised at the iPhone hate in this thread. I really don't think the iPhone is a 'toy' either. At any rate I would go iPhone but that's just me.

There is a guy I work with that gave me a hard time when I got the iPhone. Said I just joined the rest of the "drones" in the world.
Happens when something gets this popular. Many start to "not like it" so they don't appear to be part of the "drones" out there.
I'm not saying that's what is happening here specifically, but that is why I've seen some hate for the iPhone in my personal experiences.
