Quake Live - Beta
Anyone playing this?
Basically, it's a free, web-browser based version of (I believe) Quake 3 online. Quick and easy to download, no need for a messy installation, and you can play at any time right in IE or Firefox! It went 'live' on the 24th, and is still in beta stage. It's great for when you need to waste time. Especially while working.
Check it out: www.quakelive.com
And look me up, I go under HPLovekraft (the 'c' was taken )

So instead of iD trying to release a game that doesnt suck (something the haven't accomplished since...uhm...the Doom 3 Expansion pack?) they are just re-releasing old games that didn't?
Works for Nintendo I guess.

Well it's a web-browser based... A little different of circumstance. Not sure if you're much into gaming or not, but the big pull is just being able to play it online, in your web-browser, almost like 'Cloud Gaming,' albeit not truly.
As for the queue, yeah, it sucks at this time, but it's only 2 or 3 days into beta. It should get better, and be much better by the time the beta is finished.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I was huge into Quake 3, specifically RA3.
I'm 9615 in the queue and it hasn't moved.
I'll check back in a week or so.

I guess that would be my question.
Is it Rocket Arena compatible?
Damn RA was fun.

game doesn't even work. tried when the queue was low, and played the 10 minute placement match. beat it on expert, then it tried verifiying my results only to say that i didn't play the match and needed to redo it. beat it again on expert, and it still wouldn't verify
maybe i'll try when it's out of beta, but incredibly buggy right now

I was playing at work and got into a instagib railgun game and it was just like I installed quake3 from CD... until the game froze my entire system 8 minutes later.
I used firefox, a buddy said he had better success with IE... your mileage may vary.
It's got amazing potential if ID can sort out the bugs.

I'm using FF and never once had it freeze on me. Never gotten any bugs really... My girlfriend tried it and had some issues with Punkbuster, but I've since sorted that out (PB issue, not QL issue). They've recently sorted out some more stability issues, as well, and the max queue as it is reaches about 5K now, no more, and is generally lower. I am having a blast playing it...
You can also go full screen, for those who don't know, by pressing Alt+Enter.
