Default What is there to do in Kelowna?

I'm going to visit my little brother in Kelowna this June. It's his graduation and birthday, and I haven't been out to see him since he moved to BC (he's been home mind you).

I'm heading out for a couple of days and was wondering what there might be to do. He's compiling a list, but I was wondering what else as he hasn't really done any touristy stuff, and we're also night and day. Just want some ideas of what might be out there.

Cheers

I've only ever been to Kelowna once in my life and that was along time ago. I was their with my high school basketball team for this big tournament. Anyway point of the story is there was a abundance of good looking girls plenty enough to go around. I've herd that it only gets better in the summer. So I guess me answer to your question is ogle good looking women.

This thread begins and ends with one of the best Mini Golf courses I've ever played...

Scanida.

And I'll second what J Pold said.

Depends on your hobbies. The beach there is nice, and if you like Watersports some pretty good options. There are also a lot of really good golf courses in the area too if you like golf. Wineries in the area are good too if you like that, although I personally think down in the South Okanagan where I live is better, not as commercial, or busy so you usually get more samples.

we were thinking a Wine tour, and I'd like to do some hiking (suggestions there?) and simply get lost and explore the city

it almost seems wrong to be that far West and not make it to Calgary. I wonder if I can schedule a multi-city trip for at least one night in Cow-town.

Edit: The collar is always popped, I'm in the f'n zone!

If you fly with WestJet you should be able to come through Calgary pretty easily. Even if you take the Air line of which people do not speak....they service the Kelowna airport pretty frequently too. The downtown core isn't all that big, so it would be tough to spend a day wondering around there. In terms of the City, I think Kelowna is just a big long strip mall, with a small downtown and a busy beach on the other side of the highway....but thats me. I think it's worth a trip down to Penticton and over to Naramata as well if you're going to do some wineries. There is a lot of places to do some hiking too, but a more local person would know the specific area's better than I do. I would think the Big White ski hill would have some good trails, but there is certainly a few places closer to the City to hike in the hills too.

+1!

I remember barely being able to walk and playing Scandia. Then this past summer I was able to take out my nieces and nephews who are about the same age as I was the first time. What a trip that was!

And Scandia never gets old, no matter how much you might. Lol.

This thread makes me miss the water park (Wild Rapids?) and the Flintstone theme park.

Wine, wine and more wine! Visit about 6 wineries a day - many have nice restaurants attached to them. From Kelowna south to Osoyoos. I like Naramata the most.

Best beach - Skaha Beach Penticton - water sports and babes

There is a casino in Penticton

Golf (but it is too hot in the afternoon to play)

I went to Mission Hill winery with my folks a couple summers ago, and we really enjoyed it. Out of the wineries we went to, that one took the cake. I think we paid for the "deluxe wine tour", but for the variety and quality of wine and food we got to taste (and the scenery), it was worth it!

Here are some photos I took at Mission Hill:

Pretty much everything trout said - Naramata is a must for wine tours, and the Oliver area as well.

I just got back from Kelowna last weekend, there's loads to do.

My best advice? Be a gentleman and hit on the average looking girls. For some weird reason the local dudes go after the young, blond hair blue eye fake breasted ones and neglect the rest. I've been VERY succesful out there in the past utilizing that strategy......

Quails Gate Winery is the best one around Kelowna IMO.

Also... while you are there you should try some beer from Cannery Brewing. http://www.cannerybrewing.com/ Try the Naramata Nut brown beer.
