Default (Another) Getting a Jersey Numbered Thread

I have always been a "I cheer for the logo on the front, not the name on the back" kind of guy, and combined with me being a cheap SOB, not one of my ~20 NHL jerseys has a name and number on it.

Until now. During the STH sale I snagged an 06-07 RBK Pro jersey. And I'm thinking that I should get a player's name and number on it. The thing is I'm stuck on who I should get, and would like some opinions. Here's what I've been thinking:

- I don't want to get somebody obvious, so that rules out Iggy, Kipper, and Dion.
- The one player who I really like is Moss. However with it being an 06-07 jersey he wore 58 then. If I get Moss, do I get 58 on it, or 25 on it?
- Another player I liked from that era was Huselius- do I get a traded player on my jersey?
- Or do I go with a classic like Conroy?

If you were in my place, what would you get on the jersey?

I don't see a problem with getting Moss and 25 on it. IMO, I think you'd get far more "doesn't Moss wear 25" remarks if you had a 58 than "didn't moss wear 58 in 06/07" remarks if you get 25. But if you're not worried about what Joe fan sitting behind you at the game thinks and want accuracy then go 58. However, you could consider getting 58 on the sleeves and 25 on the back and confuse the hell out of everyone.

Another option altogether would be to get a funny jersey made up. Try something like...

Blow Me - 69
or
Drunk - .08

So here's my take.

Had you bought it in 06-07, you would have gotten #58 or #20, and both wouldn't be current. Even if you get a current jersey name and number... 3, 4, 5 years from now it wont be current.

I still wear my #11 Yelle for the same reasons you stated. I didn't want a usual suspect. Wanted a player that I enjoyed watching. Went with Yelle for a number of reasons, one being the number.

You shouldn't make a decision based on the year of the jersey, or make a decision based on the current names and numbers. Go with what you want on the jersey. Someone I know is a STH who has #79 "Oh Snap" on the back of his jersey. Some may think that's a waste of money, but that's what he wanted.

If you want #58, do it. If you want #20 go for it. I am of the side that if you want "Ken" #0042 on it, go for it. It's your jersey. No matter what player you go for, it will sooner or later be outdated.

That's why I got my name and number... I'll always be a Flames fan.

I think one of the reasons why I wouldn't have gotten Moss 58 on it would have been knowing the number is temporary; so if I had bought this jersey in the 06-07 season I still wouldn't have gotten Moss. Just because I knew that either his number or his job was temproary. (And I'm thankful it was the number.)

I'm a stickler when it comes to this kind of stuff, so an older style Flames jersey (RBK or otherwise) with Moss - 25 wouldn't be accurate IMO. However, it's totally up to you -- I wouldn't worry about what other people think.

One suggestion I'll add is that if Moss ends up being a player and stays for a number of years, chances are that people will start buying up Moss - 25 jerseys. If you get Moss - 58, yours will be a little more original as a "rookie" jersey (plus you can brag that you were a fan before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon )

I dont know how helpful this will be, but I've always said that if ever get a player's number on my jersey it will always be Regehr.

I wouldnt go with a traded player, thats always awkward.

I'm a stickler for accuracy as well when it comes to my jerseys. If its on somebodys else's back it doesn't concern me as much. I do have a Koho Pro Jersey that I bought in 2004. With the looming lockout I didn't get a name or number on it. After the lockout when I was certain that Phaneuf was getting number three at the start of training camp I put his name and number on it. Only one person has ever pointed out the fact that Phaneuf never wore a Koho Flames jersey. To be honest I was impressed with his knowledge (I'm sure the average CPer would be aware of that). It was also cool being one of only a handful of people with Phaneuf jerseys for a month or two.

One thing about getting Iggy, Dion, Kipper, or even Regehr on a jersey is that they should be around for a while and your jersey will not be obsolete after the trade deadline. The downside is that everyone and their dog has the same jersey as you. Do what you feel is right. If having Moss #25 is what you want, go with it.

Check out http://www.nhlnumbers.com/ to see who is signed for at least a couple of seasons. Doesn't rule out a trade but it does mean your player won't be leaving as a free agent.

Personally I would get Regehr or Glencross. Both solid, both not too obvious, both going to be here for at least a couple more years.

Second tier for me would be Langkow, Moss (gets moved down due to UFA this summer so a bit of a risk), and Giordano

So, speaking of Glencross- if I get him should I get "Glencross" or just simply "Glen-X"?

If I was getting a new jersey I would get Giordano on it. You will never see alot of those. How about Bertuzzi?
