				 John Stewart vs Mike Huckabee

I saw this a few nights ago on TV, was stunned when Stewart went right at Huckabee on Gay marriage with something I'm sure Huckabee never expected on a late night comedy news show.http://crooksandliars.com/silentpatr...ckabee-gay-mar
My favorite quote of the interview:

	Quote:

		| Stewart made his case easily: STEWART: You know, you talk about the pro-life movement [abortion] being one of the great shames of our nation. I think if you want number two, I think it’s that: It’s a travesty that people have forced someone who is gay to have to make their case that they deserve the same basic rights as someone else."

..."I'll tell you this: Religion is far more of a choice than homosexuality. And the protections that we have for religion? We protect religion -- and talk about a lifestyle choice -- that is absolutely a choice. Gay people don't choose to be gay. At what age did you choose not to be gay?"

Not a Huckabee fan at all. Hope he goes away.
At the same time, there isn't a viable President, President-elect or Presidential candidate that has come out in support of gay marriage...so Huckabee is hardly alone.

Agreed. Just the fact he was probably far from expecting Stewart to hit him hard like that.

Sort of like Stewarts brightest moment, on CNN:

One of my favorite moments. |

Although I disagree with his position and his arguments were the same tired arguments everyone always uses. Huckabee sounded very reasonable and not like most of the people you here opposed to Gay marriage.
I was a little disappointed that stewart didn't ask if he would have been okay with the state stopping using the word marriage and allowing indviduals to do what they want.

For a republican they could do a lot worse

yeah, even as a frothing liberal, i very much respected huckabee for being up front and honest. i also think stewart has the great ability to conduct a very serious and informative interview when needed. i really enjoyed watching it the other night.

That was class on both sides. Huckabee is still a religious nut, but at least he wasn't a screaming baffoon like some of the other extreme lefts/rights.

Sad that it takes a comedic talk show host and a mormon to show news shows how a real debate can happen without yelling and the nonsense we see every day on cable news.

I don't follow American stuff too closely, but is Huckabee a mormon? Because Jon Stewart is Jewish so he can't be the mormon.

I've always enjoyed Stewart's debates with those he disagrees with and this is certainly no exception. As much as Huckabee's opinions frighten and enrage me I will give him credit for not getting overly upset or resorting to name calling. That was a very good exchange.

Yes it was a very respectful debate. I think people enjoy going on his show for the most part even when they have very differing viewpoints because Stewert is respectful of others opinions but still strong about his own. John McCain an Bill O'Rielly come on the show all the time and are excellent guests.

it's weird, i hate every position that Huckabee has and would never want to see him anywhere near the presidency, but i still kinda like him. he has a very quick wit, is a great public speaker and is always honest about his views. plus the whole Colbert/Stewart/Conan O'Brien "war" during the writers strike that centered around Huckabee was brilliant

the Daily Show often beats CNN or MSNBC for news coverage, because the can show just how stupid some of these stories are that make headline news. i also love it when they make CNN et all look ridiculous with their enormous touch screens and octobox 8 talking heads

That statement is actually not true though. There are gay people who are and readily admit they are gay by choice.

So one author's statement contradicts biology and the experience of millions of homosexuals around the world... and that's what you choose to go with? Okee-dokee then. The article you cite is just an argument--it's not based on any empirical data or study whatsoever.

I personally think the "lifestyle choice" thing is a canard anyway. In my view, people should love who they want to love and the government shouldn't be getting involved in people's business, nor should they be determining whose love is more valid.
