EMS arrives on scene
it's well after midnight now.
there was just a motorcycle accident outside my house. some *******s were racing around the block. his buddies just drove off into the night when they saw the wreck. this guy was just laying on the street. not even wearing a helmet. he's breathing though, he's conscious. his girlfriend, 10 feet down the road, isn't. don't think i need to go into a whole lot more detail.
the moral of the story: don't street race. it's #####ing stupid.
sorry about the incredibly morbid topic.

And the person driving always survives. Any update on the girl's condition? It's so frustrating that people continue to do this.

Man Dies In Motorcycle Crash
Sep, 03 2006 - 11:20 PM
CALGARY/AM770CHQR - A twenty five year old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash Sunday afternoon in Calgary.
It happened just before two o'clock on the four thousand block of 61st avenue southeast.
According to police, the man was travelling at a high rate of speed, lost control of his machine and slammed into a decorative rock on a median in the area.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.
2 weeks ago I read about a guy on a sport bike who lost control and went into the ditch out of town. Took out 100 feet of barbedwire fence and did not survive.

My best friend was driving a car with 6 other people with him when he took a corner too fast. He was the only one not to survive; everyone else walked away.

So did you actually do anything to help, or did you just decide to post about it on the net?

This totally reminds me of Dominicwasalreadytaken...a guy jumped onto the roof of his house, and the first thing he did was start a thread on OilFans about it.

No offense, but read the topic. EMS was at the scene. What exactly could he have done??

Bubble wrap the everything in sight.
I don't understand the thing with croch rockets. My wife had a co worker whose friend owned a bike for two hours before he killed himself. Them bikes have a ****e load of power and you need to respect it.

after getting tossed from a bike 10 ft (may not seem like much, and it was 10 ft in distance, about 4ft of air time) I seriously reconsidered getting a bike. It was fun riding for a bit but after seeing how dumb people are on the road, I seriously am glad I didn't take up on the offers I put out for a motorcycle.
like robbob said, you HAVE to respect bikes and how they perform.

I actually see one guy with a ducati bike he's got a nice custom painted helmet and rides it like a car observing the rules of the road and driving safe. Totally responsible. But idiots like this I have very little sympathy for.

A buddy of mine let me ride his CBR600 one day (I've ridden dirt bikes, and wanted to take it out for a rip to see what all the fuss was about). When I asked him what the gearing was, he said it didn't matter as I wouldn't get it out of third, and if I did I was either going WAY too fast or didn't know how to ride.
I took it down Anderson that late Sunday night, hammered it in 2nd gear, looked at the speedo and realized I was doing 140.
I did a u-turn, drove it back and handed him the keys. Never been on another road bike since.....ludicrous speed doesn't even begin to describe those things.

Gee I read the thread, I suppose I missed the part where he said what he did before the EMS got there. I was curious if he actually went out the help of if he just looked around till the EMS got there.

I guess the way I read it was that he was close enough to give the gory details; so does him not patting himself on the back mean that he didn't do anything?
I sorta read the tone of it as "EMS arrives on scene; I left it in their capable hands at that point."
Mind you I could be wrong too.
Some see the glass half empty, some see it half full; while others ask "Hey- who's been drinking my beer!"

I want a Vespa!
...
Seriously though, i love scooters... and i want a Vespa... am i still a real man?
There are few things better for the soul then cruising along on a bike/scooter, but why so much power now days? It is so hard to find good bikes under 300cc now but it was not THAT long ago that most people started out on a bike like that.

my dad went out to help the guy, i had no idea what was going on. i headed outside when i heard the sirens. i didn't even know the guys were there at all, i was listening to music so i didn't hear them racing.
i posted it on the net because i thought that people need to realize how dangerous this is.

Did this happen just by SAIT on 16th Ave?
I just passed by there 20 minutes ago and there's plenty of flashing lights. Definitely saw one wrecked bike..

Celebrated Square Root Day
|
I was just watching the 11:00 news and they said there was another bike crash just outside SAIT on 16th Ave. Both occupents of the bike are in Serious but Stable condition and are expected to survive. They said that this was the second bad bike crash in three days (the other one being the fatal accident a couple of days ago). It got me thinking, if this crash was as bad as you described (I'm not questioning what you described, but more questioning the media) then why did they not mention the crash by your house?
It also raises another question. All the major media outlets have the ability, and do, listen to police and EMS radios and here about everything that goes on. Which got me wondering, does the media in Calgary report every fatal/near fatal car accident in Calgary? Has anyone ever witnessed or heard of any major/fatal accident that went unreported? It's not a big deal, but I just always assumed that they covered every major accident.

Of course the media doesn't report on every major and fatal accident. I just passed yet another motorcycle accident today on Macleod Trail by the Kia dealership.
I've seen some pretty brutal accidents that were never mentioned in the news.

Okay, perhaps I should narrow down the question. Does the media report on every fatal accident?
