PM sent.

But seriously...a guy tried to recruit me for that quixtar junk when I was only 17. He's like..."all you need is a product to sell online!, and then I get a small cut of the profit...and seriously you get the rest"

Then he lent me some CD-Roms with information...I promptly frisbee'd them off the 16th avenue overpass.

Didn't these guys start out as Amway? And then their products were so crappy and their tactics so shady that they had to change their name because all the gullible suckers that they could swindle had already been swindled?

Yeah, Quixtar = Amway, though I wouldn't say they did that to hide, more they wanted a wooshy new name for the Internet age.

I had a friend that was in it, I got some really good car insurance prices through them for a while when I was younger!

A guy I used to work with sold for them when it was amway. He told me that I had no future because I wasn't selling amway. Later on that night the Superman Song by the Crash Test Dummies came on and immediately after the lyrics "Superman never made any money" was heard, I said "I guess Superman should've sold amway". He got really mad at me when I said that.

My cousin's wife did Amway for a while. They went to an Amway event for New Years, and he came back swearing because it turned out the even was in a dry county.

I got swindled into one of those meetings when I was 16, on the premis that I could make millions by the time I was 20. It was hilarious, I show up wearing skate clothes and with my hair in corn braids, and all the deadbeats I went to school with (think rednecks that drive REALLY big pickups and sport 3" mosseknuckles) are all wearing suits, and tape recording the meeting. It was ridiculous.....people were EATING UP what this guy was saying, especially the part about how it "wasn't a pyramid scheme" and that it was "progressive marketing" or some stupid made up term.

What a joke that company is. I'm sure the reason they changed the name was probably because EVERYONE and I mean EVEEEERRRRYYYYONE hates the Amway salesman. My dad nearly keeled over in laughter when I told him what I was doing, and then asked me if I intended to spend my hard earned gas station salary on detergent.

Avoid Quixtar like the plauge, all you are asking for is a lot of hard work with little reward while annoying your family members and friends. No matter what they tell you, it is a pyramid scheme.

There are actually two businesses going on with Quixtar, those who are selling crappy products and annoying everyone.

The other business is the seminars, where you go and buy their tapes etc and "motivational" materials for thousands of dollars. But are told you will recoup the costs with all the selling you will do. This is the only side of the business that actually makes money.

Don't be a part of the amway/quixtar cult.

^^^^^

All true.

I had a boss who was into Amway and was trying to recruit me into it when I was 20. Than I had a roomie about 5 years ago get all excited because he was going to get into this online bussiness that a co-worker tried to get him into on a Friday night. I told him, I'll bet you $500 it's Quixtar, and that you won't make a dime and end up with more cleaning supplies than you know what to deal with. Sure enough Sunday comes around and he's like Chad you should check this out and his co-worker is trying to play the angle too. "Yeah, I need people like you to come see this and let me know if it's any good." So I decide I'm not really doing anything else, and what the hell I'll go eat someone elses food and crash their party. I basically argued with the guy doing the presentation for two hours, pointed out all the flaws with it and rediculed the people who were there. The guy doing the presentation was begging me to leave, and do so sooner than later. My room mate did get the message and didn't join up and even his co-worker stopped doing it after seeing me rip into this guy.

I find it funny how they try to sell the idea of unbelievable uncomprehendible wealth. The idea of the money just keeps coming and I have no idea how much I make, and I don't care. I can spend like a madman forever and never face any consequences. Yes I wish I could abondon the realities that limit my imagination somedays too.

Don't be a part of the amway/quixtar cult.
I've been a part of the Quixtar buisness concept for a while, well I still am. I neglect the wholesale club and just sell products.

I also participated as an IBO in the Britt World Wide organization, one of three motivational buisinesses that deals exclusively with Quixtar, their products, and how to build a sucessful buisness (other two being Dreambuilders and Yager Enterprises). Yes, if you are a certain pin level with Quixtar you will earn a profit off of the tapes/CD's/Book purchased within your organization. The amount of profit earned off of each will depend on the organization you are a part of, and the pin level that you are officially recognized at. As far as I know, the Founders of Yager Enterprises and Britt World Wide are billionaires because of the money they made off of the support systems they founded.

What struck me as odd was their penchant to combine theology and politics with buisiness. A good Quixtar IBO didn't just try to sell this plan to individuals. They went to Church (preferably Baptist) and they voted Republican while Canadians voted Alliance. Strict adherance to social folkways and morays was heavily relied on, applying very simplistic generalizations as to why people fail or succeed in life then placed the blame squarely on their shoulders ("it's the schizophrenics fault that they didn't get exorcised" or "their internal dialouge was to blame"). They also seem to have an inferiority complex, relying on the same one liners to refute anyone who pokes fun at them for what they do. Simple minds are amused by the phrase "Oh yeah? Well at least I'm not broke", repeated ad naseum.

I'm the type that needs ten hours of sleep a day, thanks to my medication, they were hardly forgiving. It was not uncommon to be woken up in a seminar and then asked if I was a winner or a loser. I would then be told to drink tons of coffee, despite having an already unhealthy amount in my system, I understood that they had the best intentions but my doctor has told me countlessly I'm not supposed to have caffine with my medicine and to sleep as soon as I feel drowsy. These actions were not officially endorsed but falling asleep after being up 18 hours straight was considered inappropriate.

Oddly enough I took a course of the most basic Sociology I could think of, just for fun. Ever since I started that course I was able to achieve a third party perspective of what went in those meetings, their idealolgy became blurry (not only that but strikingly similar to Hutterites in many, but not all, fashions). I was given a means to succeed beyond what I desired since I was a kid, but they coerced me to change many of my beliefs and a huge part of my identity to achieve this. Something I could never run along with.

PS I know this is my first post, but I plead ignorrance when it comes to the Flames. My desire is not to saturate your forums with rehashed opinions, as a result I've remained a long time lurker and will likely remain unless there is something that I have a profound degree of untouched insight in. Cheers.
