I get his desire to have it but also get why he doesn't get it. These articles written to inflame tensions are absurd though.

This article also came out after he walked it all back. I'm sure the author knew this but decided to inflame some more.

I think Jack Hughes is being pretty ridiculous.
It's from a team event. More people can enjoy it if it's publicly available for viewing.
He may have scored the goal, but the team won the medal, for the country.
Claiming sole ownership of the puck is pretty selfish, really.

Seems a bit petty.
Jack should donate the stick also. Could be a great PR move instead of the negativity he is seeing now. He already has the medal

Do players get to keep NHL playoff pucks for milestone goals or cup winning goals?

Tate doesn't even consider herself Canadian, why should we?

Just one blundering PR incident to the next with these guys since the Olympics. Crazy how the media just keeps taking his direct quotes out of context, gotta get him on Sean Hannity's podcast to set the record straight...
Has to be such a monkey paw situation for his agents and team. Scores this goal to become an American hero, immediately reveals himself to be kind of a moron who has to have his fires put out.

I hope Jack Hughes ends up broke after wasting his career earnings so he can complain about not having this pick to sell. Entitled little twat.

Not really a big deal that he wants it but these young hockey players of the latest generation really come across as out of touch spoiled entitled brats. You have a memento from the game -- its called a gold medal. You're going to be lionized for that goal for eternity and will go on to make millions playing the game in the NHL, where you can collect the puck for every achievement in your career. Surely you can give back to the game a little.

If the NHL Hall of Fame were in the States, Jack wouldn't have an issue. I think it irks him a bit that the puck is in Canada.

Makes no sense. If anything, you should be keeping your stick that scored it. That was all you, not the puck.
Maybe Werenski should ask for it since he was the one with the beautiful feed. Or Hellebuyck should ask for it for putting on the best performance ever in his career.

It’s obnoxious to even ask. He has no more right to it than anyone else. Maybe Helly should get it, or maybe the guy who set up the goal, or the coach, or the GM who named him to the team in the first place. Maybe the president of the United States should get to keep it he is the representative of the entire country after all.
The idea that he has some special right over the puck because he shot it in the net is ridiculous.
But I wouldn’t really expect much more from someone of Jack Hughes intelligence.

I mean, when players score their first goal (or any other significant goal) in the NHL, they get the puck. It's a well-established tradition, and suggestions otherwise feels a little disingenuous.
That being said, if this was the precedent for Olympic pucks, established through previous tournaments, everything probably unfolded the way it always has, and Hughes was unaware that was the case. I'm sure most players would ignorant to that process, and given that he's walked what he said back, I'm sure someone explained why it unfolded the way it did.
To me, it's reasonable that he would want it though.
