Default What if we end up at six?

Mods if it seems like a redundant thread delete.

We have had a lot if conversation if what we fo with a top three pick but from where I am sitting a top three pick has less odds than not picking in that range.

Multiple teams are now actively throwing the season. The race for the bottom is as active as the race to the top.

Based in that logic i see picking at 5 or 6 as more probable than not.

I do have Mckenna and Stenberg as the two best picks this draft but no matter how good they are both wingers the position we need the least. Very slight drop to Vaerhoff and Reid. Then another slight ledge to Lawrence Malhotra and Bjork. Beyond that i have more questions about everyone.

I see the draft as more likely playing out we walk out with Lawrence or Malhotra or Reid. I personally think that Bjork is very high on flames lists but not sure they would pass up Malhotra in a direct comparison.

If we did walk away with Malhotra i think he would be at the top of our prospects list even if we didnt pick top three.
Not licking top three this draft is dissatisfying but not crippling as both picks are wingers and i dont think either is franchise as much as i like both players .
My two cents.

We should have a separate topic for each possible draft position

I already have a fire opinion cooking for the “What if we pick 174th?” thread

Malhotra is not at the top of the Flames list.

6 would be a disaster. But 5 or 7 is OK.

That's a tough one.

I would have Parekh ahead of him.

And I think I would have Reschny ahead of him, because he has had a solid D+1 year. REALLY close though. I would want to see what Malhotra and Reschny both look like, on the same stage at next year's WJC before putting Malhotra ahead.

Imagine though, having TW) Cs on Team Canada, and a C and a winger on USA, in the same tourney. When 9 months ago we had no Cs in the system.

5 and 7 are both primes, so it's hard to argue with that.

However, 6 = 2 X 3, so it's like you're getting 2 picks - a 2nd and a 3rd. Could be the best care scenario.

The Flames still get McKenna because he threatens the other scouts that he’ll break some jaws if he isn’t on the Flames.

1/2 = McKenna or Strenberg
3 = Whomever is left of McKenna/Stenberg/Verhoeff
4/5 = Malhotra or Lawrence
6 = One of the d-men or Bjorck

That's not what you actually said, nothing about the list we do each summer.

It was confusing at best.

But I see what you mean now.

At least then we won’t have to deal with the pressure of screwing up the first pick.

Pros: Tkachuk was a 6th Overall Pick

Cons: Tkaczuk was a 6th Overall Pick

So it could go both ways. Rico Fata tilts it pretty heavily into being a not great draft position for the Flames.

I think we can put 7 names at the top (from the Flames' perspective):

2 wingers: McKenna and Stenberg
2 D-men: Verhoeff and Reid
3 centres: Laurence, Malhotra and Bjorck

I think no matter where we pick, it will be one pf those 7 names (and I doubt it's a Dman, unless we're licking 4th or 5th and Verhoeff is still there)

The defensemen who will be available are quite tantalizing. It’s a very good first-round for D. Carels, Verhoeff, Reid, Lin, Rudolph, and Smits are all candidates to go top-10.

I still love Lawrence and Malhotra.
