Flames Dear Craig, it's time to give Rory Kerins his due!

He may be one of the organization's most consistent producers at any level and he's getting brick walled.

Another 2 points last night to lead the Wranglers to a win.

70 points in his last 70 ahl games
4 points in 5 nhl games
One of the best 2-3 forwards over the camp exhibitions

"Sorry, there's no room in the inn" feels like a lame duck excuse for a player that has done everything metric-wise to earn it.

When the team does ship out bodies eventually, Kerins needs to be one of the first calls made to fill that roster vacancy.

I'd like to see what he can bring to the team with a solid run of games. Hard to believe that in a rebuild we can't seem to accommodate our top performers because of an over-crowded nhl roster.

Phillips was 5'6" and a feather
Kerins is 5'11" and a feasible nhl weight

Yeah. You’re so right

A fringe AHL guy is just what the Flames need

Who has Conroy on speed dial ?

Do you get paid by thread?

He isn't in because of his poor defensive game and skating...hopefully he is working on it as he will probably get some games at some point

0.80 PPG in the NHL, some kinda clip for a fringe guy.

I think the point is that it's possible that he is only "fringe" because the team has made him so by seldom opening the door to NHL opportunity.

Has Huska opened up about what Kerins is specifically lacking at the top level to be a regular in his lineup? i didn't listen to any of his pressers over training camp. (edit: maybe dino just answered that)

So, you know, Schroedinger's cat, so on and so forth.

Let's at least find out what we have here.

He also has 4 points in 5 NHL games compared to Phillips who has 5 points in 34 NHL games. Small sample sizes and all that, but I think Kerins has more potential. He showed more in the 5 NHL games he played than Phillips ever showed.

He also cleared waivers...its not just the Flames who are unsure on the player and his NHL ability

To be fair, he can't be that out of place with how the team is performing defensively thus far.

Not exactly a clinic out there.

If he can produce, at least he brings something. As opposed to the whole lot of nothing parts of this roster are currently bringing (okay, a superb peppering of the opposing goalie's logo crest).

He had one huge game and then quickly turned invisible.

His skating wasn't great, but even at the time of the call up I thought his offensive instincts looked NHL caliber. You could see it from the very first shift. And he wasn't playing with the tops guys.

A team can never have enough of those players that chip in offensive in more games than not, even if that means they're largely invisible for stretches of the game until they factor into a play that results in a goal.

I'll take more of that on this team over being A+ for effort level but constantly snakebitten/no finish.

So one stint and never again. We're sure giving our prospects a lot of runway.

Yeah, it's not like they ever found roster spots for Coronato, Klapka, Zary, Honzek, or Parekh. No runway at all.

I do wonder if we see some players from the Wranglers come up this month if the slide continues. I don’t think the flames make a deal until after the quarter pole but if the season continues to go the way it’s I suspect we will see several prospects get a look

I've never been as high on Kerins as some others, but I would still like to see what the Flames have in him. But it's a long season and I anticipate those opportunities will come naturally as the team continues to fall out of the playoff picture, and some players get moved.

Exactly.

I don't think it's a crime or mismanagement for a player that cleared through waivers not to be on the roster to start the year or after 10 games.

But they should get a good look at him before he needs to go on waivers again.

Dustin Boyd Syndrome (TM) is real.
